Technology Breaking News - Google Maps Traffic Update Improvement

Today, Google announced that it’s improving the traffic reporting available in Google Maps. Google Maps has reported the traffic in major interstate highways for quite some time. But beginning today, Google Maps is going to expand its traffic layer to include US highways and arterials leading into those highways when the data’s available. Now how can you help with this? If you use Google Maps with My Location on your portable phone while you’re sitting in traffic or driving in traffic, your phone will send anonymous bits of information to Google such as your speed. What this does is when combined with phones from other drivers’, it lets you see the kind of details we can see here on the map. Right now live, the green shows that it’s moving very fast, the yellow shows that it’s moving slow. Here you can see a lane is blocked, here’s an accident. So Google match with My Location on your cellphone will give you much more accurate information so that you can plan your day. So if you don’t mind, your phone sending a little bit of anonymous information to Google by working together with Google, we can all improve our experience on the road.
