I am now going to plum with that. Notice the Ikea plastic bands on my paw and that is for stowing the hook so I can put my float down any when I want and keep it all nice and tidy. The first thing I am going to do is to cast into the water and just check to make sure if my float is correctly shorted.
That is about perfect, the float is just above the water but nice and low so the fish can take it under easy. Okay, the next stage is to attach the plum lead; this is a plummet lead. These are heavy lead weight with a piece of cork on the bottom. You can get other types, you can get clamp one types but I do prefer to actually use the ones with cork, they seem to hold and be a bit more reliable.
To attach this plum lead, it is just simple. Pass the hook, through the large eye on the top and put the hook into the bottom of the cork and that is it. You want me to do now is to pop that into the water and if you can see I am too shallow, that weight is heavy, so heavy that it will actually pull the float right under the water.
So now, that tells me that I need to adjust the depth and put more depth from the rig like so and I will keep adjusting this float now and what I am looking for is for that float to actually come to the surface which means that are we actually dead depth. Now, the float at the moment is just underneath the water so I just need to add a couple more inches to the depth to bring it up.
That now should align my float to be level with the surface almost. We just need to add a fraction more on that. Now it is worth to know and it is really is important to get this depth right so if we are spending a lot of time doing it, making sure you get it right.
Here we go; we are on the bottom now. Go up on the piece of weed there. This is one other thing about pluming the depth, we can explore to swim as well and if there are weed banks we can actually find them by using the plum lead.
Now, where we are, that is perfect. The tip of the flow is level with the surface, the plum lead is resting on the bottom so that means that out rig is actually the dead depth for the water and that is where we want to start fishing. Most of the fish are going to be feeding on the bottom to start with; we always start on the bottom. We can always shallow up our rig if we feel the fish are coming up. So now, the depth is plumed then we are ready to start fishing.
