Casting and the whip is very easy really. There are two main types of cast, one of them is the overhead cast and the other one is a simple underarm cast.
Now, I am going to demonstrate the overhead cast first for you. So to do this, we simply bring the tackle slowly behind us until we reach about the 2:00 o’clock position. We then look forwards and cast the whole rod forwards following through with the rod.
We can sink our line by dipping the tip in the water and just bringing it in slowly in the waters and flicking the tip up.
So, I will demonstrate that again.
Bring the tackle slowly behind you, keeping the rod vertical. Come back to about the 2:00 o’clock position, look forward and cast the whole rod forwards following through with the rod. Sink the line by dipping the tip in the water and flicking up and we are fishing.
(Demo)
Now, I am going to demonstrate the underarm cast. A very easy cast but you need to use the rod as a bit of pendulum swing to get a momentum to manage a way to get the cast that you want it.
So this is how we do it.
We just hold the line, a couple of inches above the hook, keep a little bit of tension between the tip and the rig and just simply swing everything forwards.
Again, landing very gently and with the tip close to the water. Sinking the line is exactly the same as you did in the previous cast. Dip the tip in the water and just flick gently and the line is sunk.
I will demonstrate that again.
So, grip the line just above the hook. Tension the rig just a little bit on the end of the pole. And, simply swing underarm. Land with the tip close to the water and sink your line.
Well, that is the two demonstrations of the two most common casts. You can now go away and practice that.
