Shalom, this is the number five in the series of terms for an Introduction of Judaism Class. This is on Jewish Prayer.
The first is Corban or sacrifice. Corban is the, usually translated the sacrifice but it is actually, it is based on the word to draw a close and the Viticus describes the specific sacrifices Corban author who offered by our ancestors, of course we stopped that 2000 years ago but it was the central part of Jewish prayer until then.
Cohen Lavian Israel the next terms. This is an ancient division of Judaism. God designated the Aaron as the first Cohen priest in all of his descendants were Cohenim. He was a member of the Levitical tribe which is one of the twelve tribes of Israel so all the rest of the tribe decides his family with Levi’s and everyone else the other eleven tribes were Israel. So, the Levi tribe has a specific ritual responsibilities and these are the ancient synagogue. I have a specific Youtube on Cohenim priest.
Rabbinic Judaism is the term that we give to the Judaism from about 200 years ago so until today. That is once we stopped the sacrifices in 70 CE a group of Jews who are more focused on prayer and study of Torah. I took over and that became really the off shoot of the Pharisees. There is a video on the Pharisees if you want to know more about it for Benett Judaism and it is based on the Oral law the Talmud, which is the interpretation of the Torah.
Kava and Kavanah those are the two polarities of one way of understanding the Jewish prayer. Kava would be the set texts in words and Kavanah would be the spiritual intentionality behind it.
The siddur is the prayer we had it on the last terms to the prayer book based on the word Seder.
Shacharit, Minchah Ma’ariv and I had videos on each of those. Those are the three prayer services of the day. Shacharit is the morning, Minchah is the afternoon, and Ma’ariv is the night prayer.
Racha that is a blessing and they all begin the same way Baruch, Ata, Aranoi, Aleinu, Malachalab, blessed are though our lord our God ruler of the universe.
Amidah Laambode means to stand, the Amidah is the standing prayer and it is really one of the central pieces of our daily prayer different slightly from the daily Amidah which has 19 blessings to the Sabbath and how the Amidah which has seven but that is the Amidah.
Cabalat Shabath is a special service only done on Friday night and a little preview of the service of four. We have the Ma’ariv which consists of six Psalms from the bible plus prayer called Lahad Odie.
Triahad Torah is the term for the reading of the Torah which we do on Monday morning, Thursday morning, Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon. The Torah is divided into 54 pieces and we read one section each week.
Musaf is a fourth service that is done only on the Sabbath and on special holidays.
Aleinu is the last main prayer of every service we do. Originally, it was just only on the high holidays but now it is added to every service we have at the end.
Oneg means the light and it is usually the term that associated with enjoying the Sabbath and food that we serve at the synagogue on Friday evening after services.
Dvin is a word for to pray.
Dvar Torah is a word of Torah and another word for sermon.
Minyan, I have a youtube on Minyan that is the prayer corium of ten adult Jews above the age of 13 and Orthodox would say ten men while the rest of Jew say ten Jews.
Aliyah means an honor going up to the Torah or it means moving to the Israel. Nusach is the melody and the words of the Jewish prayers.
Trap is the specific cantellation that we use to chant the bible scripts so there is a different one for the Torah and for the Half Torah and for various books of the bible.
