Shalom, this is the beginning of a series of videos and defining terms for introduction to Judaism and Long Distance Converging class. It is a 16 sessions but even people not taking the classes might still find them interesting.
I am going to name and term and then define it. These are things that we expect people on the introduction of Judaism and Long Distance Converging Class to know.
Monotheism that is the word for the belief in one God, names of God. I have a whole video on Names of God so please check out that video.
Emunah which means belief.
Emeth which means truth it is interesting that the word emeth in Hebrew is the first middle and last letter behavior alphabet and that is truth.
Yodhay Vavhay which is also called the Tetrogramiton and that is one of the main names of God in the bible. The Hebrew letters Yodhay Vavhay.
Bread or breast does not mean circumcision it means covenant. The term for circumcision is brit milah. The word milah actually means circumcision.
We have the term here God in spiritual life which is the subject of several videos.
Yirat Shamayim is the ore or fear Shamaim of heaven of the sense that we are in law of God.
The Yarmocha the Kipa that we wear Yarmocha is the way you spell even if it is pronounced Yah Maka means fear of the aura of heaven.
Mitzvoth which means commandments I have here apprentices that we have here 613. That is the traditional under belief of how many commandments there are. Actually it is based on Demetria. I have a video explaining Demetria, the Hebrew number counting system based on the alphabet where the word Torah has 611 and expert too that God said before the people said please do not have God. We cannot handle the voice, he had Moses tell us the rest for 611 plus two is 613. Actually, for non-Orthodox Jews it just means a lot of commandments. Just read the Torah and it constantly says God said this and that.
The word Halakhah means Jewish law and it is based on the word Hala which means to walk in God’s ways.
Shulchan Aruch that is the main code of Jewish law from late middle ages.
Teshuvah it means repentance.
Chiuv in English spelling means obligation. So, someone who is Chiu is a Chiuv is obligated to fill a particular Mitzvoth, commandment.
Mara Da Atra that means the religious deciser, the person who actually oppose the rabbi who makes a decision on a matter of Jewish law.
Mahogat Lasheim Shammaim is a dispute for the sake of heaven. That is two scrolls of threat disagreeing about a particular religious matter. Mahogat Lasheim Shammaim a good dispute about what God’s will is versus a Mahogat Lolasheim Shammaim does not for the sake of heaven is simply for personal aggrandizement.
Poseik is the religious deciser, the Mara Da Atra who pass him who makes a religious decision about a matter of Halakhah of Jewish law.
Kedusha which means holiness, the root of Qadosh or holy.
Lobasha Mayemhi the concept in the Torah that this, the Torah is not in the heavens that is so far away. It is said in the Deuteronomy that you cannot find it, it is right here in front of you.
Kehila is the word for congregation.
Ben Adumli Machum, you can divide commandments into two different ways. One is the positive commandments like love thy neighbor and the other is a negative commandments like do not or Benadam LaMachum would be commandments between us and God like Shebat and Benadam Lacavier between a person and his fellow like do not murder.
So, those are the terms for session number one that we have for our course God and Mitzvoth.
