Hi, this is Lars with Clean Air Gardening and today I am going to tell you about the Texas Two Step organic method of fire ant control. If you have ever visited Texas, you might have noticed that we have a big fire ant problem down here. Fire ants are an imported species that came from South America and they don’t really have any natural enemies and so they are really, really nasty. They will give you a terrible bite, they kill all kind of other things isn’t much you can do to stop them without really harmful chemicals, until now. Now Texas A&M University did a study and they found this method, it is called the Texas Two Step method because it uses two different organic products. One of them is based on this thing, it is called Orange Guard. We have it both in the bottles and we also have the gallon so either one of this will work. It is the same product, this just comes in a spray bottle. The gallon comes at a bigger container. This is one of the aspects of the Texas Two Step method. It is a contact killer, you can pour it directly onto a fire ant pile and it will kill all the fire ants inside. By the way, this is made from orange peal so it is quite safe. It is not harmful. It is a really safe product to have around your yard. If you got a dog or something you would not worry about them. And it will work a fire ant killer on its own but the Texas Two Step method uses these two different things which improves the fire ant killing power even more. And it is still organic.
The other product, it is this fire ant control with conserve. Conserve is made from Spinosid. It is a biological product that is really harmful to fire ants but not much of anything else. What you do is, it works as a bate, they actually like it, they will carry it off and they will carry it down into their pile thinking that it is food and that it makes them sick and it ends up killing and exterminating the whole pile. It is OMRI listed which means Organic Materials Review Institute and basically you put four table spoons per each amount and you put it on there. You sprinkle a little bit around and on top of the mound. You will see it disappear and then the fire ant pile will start to die off in a matte of days. So with the two step method, you will use both of these methods and you are pretty much assured to get rid or your fire ant problem. I recommend both these products. Why don’t you give them a try?
