Here’s the first hybrid SUV from Volkswagen. The new Touareg focuses not only on the environment but also on aerodynamic design with very low drag resistance. And although the body is even stiffer, the new model is 200 kilos lighter than its predecessor. Quite an achievement.
The Touareg hybrid is the first hybrid to enter series production and it comes with many new features like O-view offering everything that VW has right now. The Touareg hybrids drive all electric up to 50 KMH with zero emissions and when you want to go faster, the supercharged V6TSI engine cuts in, the Touareg hybrid combines the performance of an eight cylinder with the fuel economy of a 14. Average fuel consumption is 8.2 liters on a 333 horsepower gasoline engine and a 52 horsepower electric motor.
Although there are no complaints on the build quality of the former model, VW has moved up the bench mark once again. There are also wider range of standard equipment including a CD sound system, on board computer, cruise control, a multi function leather steering wheel, seventeen inch aluminum wheels and two zone air conditioning, all at no extra cost.
Driver assistance systems like the lane assistant or distant radar comes as options. The rear seat bench moves 16 centimeters or 6.3 inches to and fro, luggage capacity is up from 580 to 1,642 meters. The new Touareg feels at home not on the off-road but also in town with its hybrid drive. Thanks to its powerful electric motor, it is most economical in any stop and go traffic.
