A basic formation in a man up situation is the 3-3. In a 3-3 formation, you want to have your best creaseman getting open on the crease. If you have a very good creaseman, it will open up shots for players on the outside.

Also, the players on the outside can dump the ball inside, force the defense to slough in, and then the ball could be moved back to the outside for opening one-on-one shots with the goaling.
