The Advantages of Water Aerobics Jim: I’m here at the Hollywood Wilshire YMCA for a water aerobic class. I’m in pretty good shape so it should be a piece of cake. Hey come on, its water aerobics, how hard could it be? Alright here we go. Alright I’m here with Beverly, the instructor for this water aerobics class. Now tell me what’s unique about this class? Beverly: Water aerobics is a great exercise. It works every muscle and joint in your body. The buoyancy of the water is supporting mostly your weight. The first thing we do is walk. Then we turn the walking to a jog, then we pick it up a little fast into slight run, we do some sidesteps. Working out in the water is burning away from 450 to 750 calories. Jim: Alright, this is getting a little harder now. Collin: I love water but there’s less lack of gas build up in this, just the resistance alone you get more pressure work and you could see more results. Jim: Alright Beverly, what are we going to do with these weights? I mean they’re pretty light. Beverly: The weights are relatively light but once they’re in the water they can be quite difficult. Jim: This is kind of hard. Beverly: Two of the best exercise for your arms are bicep curls and tricep pull down. You’re going to do that straight down on your weight. Jim: This is going to get bad. It’s burning. Nella: You see your arms getting toned much quicker than as if you were doing free weights in a gym. Jim: Well this is a lot harder than I thought. This is my style of water aerobics.
