Ford's Mustangs started the pony car wars, years and years ago. And they've had the market pretty much at themselves. But they are getting come real competition this year, to stay ahead of the game, the GT500 has been renewed for 2010
Underneath the hood, is essentially the engine that was in the GT500 KR last year, 540 horse power, 510 pound feet of torque. So trumping the new competitor is pretty handily there. It's been re-tuned slightly for more low end torque, which is allowing them to up the transmission gear ratios, along with some revisions of the axle ratio. So you get a little bit better gas mileage along with it. Not that, people are really too concerned about that in the 540 horsepower car, but hey every bit counts.
Styling is still very aggressive. The change is relative to the regular Mustang. Quite evident is a chin splitter in the front and a spoiler in the back with a gurney lip that combined to increase down force in the front and reduce it little bit at the back for better front and back balance in the overall lift at high speed. You might notice this Grabber Blue paint that was supposedly Carol Shelby's favorite. It's available with either red, white, or silver stripes. And there's stripe colors picked up on the interior, interesting enough, two stripes on each of the seats, very interesting sown in, in leather, very high scale.
My favorite interior design for it though is the cue ball shifter, which evidently is made by an actual billiard ball manufacturer, and they did that because they couldn't get any one to mill stripes on a metal one that they originally thought about doing.
One of our big complaints, with the GT500 KR and the GT500 has been the handling. And we are assured, now I haven't driven it yet but this is greatly improved. The spring rates are quite a bit changed. And the steering is supposedly quite a bit different from the old one. So we are still kind of skeptical on that, we will take a little bit convincing with a real life car. But the promise has been a big improvement is made in that front as well.
