This is Todd Ogasawara, MobileViews.com and I wanted to do something while I’m waiting for my iPod touch to arrive and I won’t be here for a couple of weeks so I brought out my very first Apple PDA, the Apple Newton. This one is a Message Pad 130 and here’s a modern iPod to give you a sense of skill in my current phone, to give you more of a relative size, this is a T mobile dash. So this message pad is about 12 years old now, I had a big 4 GB flash storage card that goes right in here for it and as you can see, I also bought a key board. This is an actual Apple Newton keyboard made by Apple for the Newton and surprisingly enough this thing actually still works so let me pause to plug the power in and I’ll show you.
Okay, I’m back and I’ve got the power plugged in since the rechargeable battery is sort of – this thing died a long ago, it runs in double “A” so I quick stick just regular four double “A” batteries in it and it would work but not, didn’t seem work the effort so I plugged in the all power supply. And up came the screen as you might be able to see, so the message pad’s backlight died years ago I think, if I remember correctly but the message pad itself still works.
So you can see the extra screen come up and even some of the stuff I installed for it like basic, still seems to be in there. Everything still seems to work which well, it’s not detecting the card, okay maybe not everything works but it’s still relatively responsive for just such a little guy. Here comes the calculator, I think that’s a pocket quick in, yap. Here’s the calendar, and some names.
Well in any case, I’m sure the iPod should be quite a different experience than this very first Apple PDA I had and I’m really looking forward to it. I thought that some folks might enjoy seeing an old Apple Newton, which is now over 10 years old, I think it’s about 12 or 13 years old in this case. See you in a couple of weeks when my Apple iPod touch arrives.
