The Audi R8 - Car Review

[Music Playing] You know nothing eases a midlife crisis more than a fast beautiful car and we're looking at one of the most beautiful cars in the my opinion that's come out over the past year. It's the Audi R8 and this is a smoking machine. Not only as far as speed but all the technology that they have put in this unit here. It's using aircraft grade aluminum to keep the weight down. You can see it's got a 50/50 weight distribution as well to make it stable. Even things like the engine, it's a mid level engine here and basically that's even encased in magnesium which is lighter than aluminum, but stronger. So it gives it that rigidity. I don't know where to start here. Let's have a look up front and this is kind of interesting. Even starting with things like the parking senors. It's got parking sensors built into the front and back. So it will actually let you know if you are too close to the curb or to the car in front of you when you are parking. The back has review camera as well. It's a fish eye lens so you can even get a 170 degree view of what you are backing into so that you can do those perfect parallel parking jobs. Have a look at the lights here. It's using LED technology. You can see right down the front here as the day time running lights. They do stay on at night as well to give it that cool look, but it's interesting just to see this trend of a lot of different technology using LED to not only keep the power consumption down, but the cost saving to the battery life as well. This is one of my favorite little things. There is a little R8 logo on that little plastic piece in front of the main headlight. So now when you come home, that R8 logo gets projected up on to your garage door. So that's kind of like a bat signal, you will know you have arrived at that point. Even the tyres. There is not a spare tyre included in this car, but the reason is that even if you do get a puncture on this particular tyre, you can actually get to the gas station or the service center, I believe you can get up to 50 kms driving it 15 miles an hour as well. So again interesting technology throughout this particular car. Let's check out the engine. And I am just going to pop the - so as far as the specs on the engine, it's a 4.2 liter engine. It's using some really advanced technology as far as the fuel injection is injecting the fuel right into the combustion chamber. V8 engine and this baby does 420 HP. So this thing is smoking fast. Technology inside the car is pretty cool too. Let's check that up. It really feels like I am sitting inside of cockpit specially with all that power behind me. It's got the built-in navigation system, full-color screen up here. So obviously you can find where you are going, but all different points of interests as well. If you want to find the nearest restaurant, gas station, even instance teller, it will bring in right up. As far as the actual music system is using Bang & Olufsen System, 14 speakers and sub woofer in here. So it's pretty smoking hot. You can do the CDs. It's got the built-in CD changer right here behind me and this is kind of cool. We are all into the digital MP3 files. You push the button, the little screen comes up and you can actually stick in two SD cards. I think four GB a side so that's 8 GB of memory that you can use to store all of your favorite music. Getting back to performance again. This is able to run in just automatic ,but you have got full manual control here as well. You can see with the shifter here, up and down. It even has the built in paddles, unlike a race car, if you want to use that. And being a performance Audi, it's got the Quattro all wheel drive as well for superior handling and even to take it up another level as far as the performance, obviously if you are getting into this car, you are all about performance, getting it to corners and things like that. It's got a magnetic suspension and you can make that happen just by hitting the one button and this is a neat thing. The suspension is actually wrapped around almost like a magnet and inside are magnetic particles. When you hit that button, it will actually make the suspension more rigid. So if you want to take that corner extra quick, just a simple click of the button. As you can probably imagine, all this power and performance does not come cheap; $117,000.
