Welcome back, I’m Jack Tiano with American Bartender School. And the drink I’d like to show you today is a Cosmopolitan. Now, if you’ve ever watched the great television series Sex in the City, whenever the girls went out to have a drink or went to a restaurant, one of their favorite drinks that they would order is a Cosmopolitan. And we’re going to show you how to make a great Cosmopolitan.
First thing that we’re going to use is a stemmed cocktail glass, and we want to be sure to pre-chill our stemmed cocktail glass because once we pour our Cosmopolitan into the glass, it’s never going to get any colder, it’s just going to start to warm up, so we want to be sure to start with a very cold glass. So what I’m going to do is I’m going to put some ice in the glass while I’m preparing the drink. Now, what I’m going to do is I’m going to take a glass mixing cup and I’m going to put some ice in there. I’m going to use an ounce of our Citron Vodka, this happens to be Absolute, very nice Vodka, I like it. You can use any Citron Vodka, and Citron Vodka is just vodka with where they take a little bit of the essence of the lemon and added to the vodka, so it’s not sweet, it’s got a very mild lemon, almost lemon peelish taste of the vodka. We’re going to use one ounce of that, turn the bottle the right way, there we go. One ounce of our Citron Vodka, then what we’re going to do is we’re going to use a half ounce of triple sec; triple sec is a sweet liqueur, they make it from orange peels and grain neutral spirits, it doesn’t have an orange flavor, it’s got more of an orange peelish flavor. We use a lot in a lot of our cocktails, we use it as a sweetener and actually adds a little bit of a different flavor to the drinks. We use a half ounce of this.
And what we’re going to use is a dash of our Rose’s Lime Juice. Rose Lime Juice is actually a lime concentrated syrup, very sweet, very limey. There we go, a little bit of our Rose’s, now it’s kind of stuck in there but we’ll get it out there. And then what we’re going to use is a splash of our cranberry juice, not a lot, there we go, just maybe a little bit more, there we go, not too much. Then take our tin, there goes our drink, you want to shake it up, make sure that the drink is nice and cold and chilled and airy. Pot of ice for our stemmed cocktail glass and what we want to do is we want to strain it into our drink into out cocktail glass without the ice; we don’t want the ice on that. Now what we’re going to do is we’re going to take a piece of fresh lime juice, little lime squeeze, and squeeze it right in there and there we have it our Cosmo or Cosmopolitan. Sex in the City, Kerry Bradshaw, we salute you.
Remember, don’t drink and drive, be safe, have fun. Till we see next week for another fun cocktail, see you then.
