Speaker: Hello and welcome to a Mixed Doubles Curling demonstration, over the next few minutes we will explain and illustrate the rules and subtle differences from Team Curling to that of Mixed Doubles Curling.
Speaker: Mixed Doubles consist of teams of two players, that will play five stones each end, player one delivers the first and last stone, player two delivers stones two, three and four. There will be two stones positioned before each end place and there are only eight ends of play.
Speaker: Team one stone is placed in the back half of the button intersecting the tee line, team two stone is placed halfway between the twelve foot and the hog line again intersecting the tee line.
Speaker: No stone, including those in the house can be removed from play untill three stones have been played, kind of like a five rock rule.
Speaker: So, we have the United States playing Denmark, in this demonstration of mixed doubles.
Speaker: Lots of strategy decisions to be made with those stationary rocks in play, see a lot of lightweight shots, freeze is called.
Speaker: And one of the differences, there are no sweepers, the brushing is done by the thrower and the person holding the brush. In this case Brunt caught up with her own stone and Rob Meakin got out to try and assist in the brushing. Four stones remaining and the United States Rob Meakin attempting to nudge another stone into scoring positions.
Speaker: When you see all those rocks in play, in the end of the first end Denmark, Ulrik Damm attempts to minimize those US pointers by knocking many of the stones out of play.
Speaker: So, Ulrik Damm now with the final stone attempting to do some damage to the American rocks better in a scoring position and he will get rid of a couple of them limiting the United States to a single point.
So after one end of play, its one nothing, the USA over Denmark. Now, let’s move ahead to the fourth end, after ends two and three were blanked.
Speaker: And another Mixed Doubles rule allows a team to switch the throwing, in this end Denise Dupont laid off, Ulrik Damm through the middle stones and here is Dupont with the.
Dupont will try to draw and to get that second point, she has to make a decision whether her rock needs to be swept or not.
Speaker: And she has realized that with her release this stone need some assistance but despite her brushing efforts it wrecks on the two stones sitting out front.
So, it’s a single point for Denmark and the score after four ends of play, Denmark one, the USA one. Now, we move ahead to the fifth end, seven stones remaining.
Speaker: Rob Meakin asking Maureen Brunt to just draw nasal radian there, come off of her own, try to get into that button area.
Speaker: Again she is going to try and move into position to do some brushing if necessary.
Speaker: Sit, there she just left it, got more of a rub.
Speaker: So, now we are down to the last stone of the fifth end, Denmark is sitting two, the United States Rob Meakin has last rock at bench.
Speaker: And he will throw a big hit here attempting to remove some of the Denmark stones but as you can see only get rids of one and Denmark steals one.
Speaker: So, let’s say two, one Den has lead over the US, we move ahead to the eighth and final end, the teams traded points in six and seven. Denmark is leading three, two.
Speaker: And this being the first stone at the end, there are the two stationary rocks in play and a typical call is to come freeze down to the shot stone at the back of the tee line.
And you can see you can get two brushes going when the skip comes out to help the sweeping, trying to drag it into the scoring area.
Speaker: The US is lying one, the final stone, make and attempting to hit out the Danish stones and with the good way, he gets the hit, the roll and he will get two may be even three. And does they take another look? It is three yellow. So, the final score, the United States defeats Denmark in this demonstration of Mixed Doubles Curling by a score of five, three. Thanks for watching.
