All right, welcome to Inside Geek Canada my name is Logan Thies and what I am going to cover today is the essential basics of Photoshop CS3. All right, my Photoshop CS3 right now and I am going to quickly go over the basics on what you should know and on what you will need to know. In comparison to CS2 as well as the previous other versions of Photoshop to those that have been experienced to the program itself. There have been a few new changes in regards to the oral layout such as the new expand out that is added. The more advance use of actions. Overall however it is no different in the previews versions as they were before, it is simply more convenient and far more easier to make your own layout and as to how you would like to organize yourself prior to your work.
All right, the tools and cells have not been changed. A few have been fixed regarding the patches and issues that have in the past but overall they still function exactly the same. The move tool, depending as to what object you have with layers. It will allow you to move the object where you want on the canvas which I will probably show you later.
The rectangular marquee tools, etcetera. This are like to cut and paste objects out from various other objects. Lasso tool, I probably go on Lasso tool and the magnetic lasso tool do the exact same thing, if you want something more précised. The magic wand is a rather tricky little tool to use because depending as to what pixel ratio that you select on your object, it will select everything that is close to that ratio. So if you have a white background and a blue circle in the middle and you cut on the blue circle, the magic wand will immediately surround the entire blue circle.
If there is two different blue shades then only pick the one shade that you have depending as to what tolerance level that you have, okay? The crop tool is primarily used only to crop the photo, to cut out what you do not need. It is more primarily used for photography as well as photo editing.
Slice tool is a nifty little tool used for web development where you are able to actually literally slice sections of your image and make it up into several different images. You are able to add code to the menu or capable who have actually making a website off for Photoshop. However for this lesson you will not know that.
This is the spot hidden brush tool. This is used as well as all this other tools for photography. The red eye tools self explanatory. The patch tool as well as the healing brush tool and the spot healing brush tool primarily do the exact same thing. The spot healing brush, you simply click on a spot that you like to fix, if you have a photo of an individual that you want to fix up small imperfections, you can quickly fix that.
The healing brush tool require some practice, I will show you that later on. The patch tool is similar to the lasso tool, only it provides the same function of the healing brush tool. All right, the brush and pencil, the color replacement tool you will never need to use. The pencil and the brush tool are self explanatory.
The clone stand tool and the pattern stand tool are far more advanced and you will not need to know this. Here is your brush tool and your art history brush tool. You will not need to know. The eraser, the background eraser tool and the magic eraser tool with the exception of the eraser itself, you will not need to know the other too. The granite tool and the paint bucket, self explanatory. Blur sharpens smudge, these are more for exact editions to it, to what you want. You are able to blur certain parts of an object, you are able to sharpen, you are able to actually alters the point of what you wanted to be.
Then you have the dodge and the burnt tool, the dodge lightens objects with an image to the best that it can and the burnt tool darkens objects. The smudge, the sponge tool extracts the color from the object. Then we have vector tools, the pen tool, free from pen tool and the other tools. Actually all of these tools here are based upon vectors. I will go over that briefly and then comes the miscellaneous tools that you are probably never get to use.
Other, file, no. and here is to what you are doing whether it is print or website design. It will depend this to which one you want to use, RBG is primarily used for the red green blue ratio which is primarily used for monitor viewing and it is mostly used for website development. CMYK is used primarily for the print media. Gray scale, bitmap and live color would not apply to any of this so we are just going to use RGBM.
Make sure that you are using 72 pixels per inch otherwise the image will be massive and you will not need it to be like that. We are just going to use a default Photoshop size. Okay, now that we got that okay, we have the freaking canvas, yahoo. All right, we are going to make three squares, one is red. Pick the color, okay, make another one. This did not work. In case this does happen, you can go back, double click on this and you can go to blue. All right, we have three objects now.
We are going to use something other fans that are going applied into. Now make it green because green is my favorite color. All right, that looks good, okay. Perfect. Now on the right side here where it says layers, as you can see, you have much objects here listed in order of which one is created as the newest.
Now what is the purpose of the layer, well essentially layers align to alter and to change to what you have all ready been placed within your canvas. So in case something does not like this red square to be behind the blue and the green, well you can just move it up and it will cover them. The same thing with the green and blue, you can play around with them, you can play around with them and you can just move them around whatever you want. These are the essential basics of Photoshop itself.
You have the pencil tool now to create a new layer, you go here, click it once and then you have a new layer. Finally, you see, you are able to brush so you right click and you can change the exact size of what your brush size can be. Depending as to what you exactly want to do. You can also scroll around and pick better ones. You can pick customize. All right, now that we got that and now you can play around with this and fill with Photoshop until your heart freaking contends.
All right, now that we got that down. Those are the essential basics of Photoshop where are the layer system allows individuals to add, to change as well as to alter which you currently have be it a single layer or many layers. Photoshop is a very, very powerful tool and essentially if people do not want to use the advance features, it is still fun to play with.
Okay. So assumingly we have learned the basics of Photoshop CS3. Thank you for watching my lesson on the basics for Photoshop. You can email me at Logan@insidegeek.ca
