We are going to be talking about the basics of goal tending. The first thing we are going to talk about is your stick. There is a lot of different theories on stick but I like to think that your stick should be about the same length to your armpit. Some people play with a longer stick. Some people play with a shorter stick but this is a good starting basis.
Next is your hand position on the stick. It is very important. Your hand should be about shoulder width apart and your hand should have a nice, light, comfortable grip where you are really holding the stick with your thumb and your first finger. The other fingers are just lightly on the stick. We do not want to death grip with your fingers wrapped around it. You want your stick loose in your hands so that you are very flexible.
Next thing, we are going to talk about is our stance. Our stance, we need a nice athletic stance feet shoulder width apart on the balls of our feet with our knees slightly bent, slightly leaning forward. So, from the front it looks like this. From the side, it would look like this with our head up. Next is our stick. Hand shoulder width apart. Our stick needs to be up as high as the top of the goal with a good stance. Our stick is in the top right position, okay. And this position, this is our starting position. From this position, our stick should always stay in a flat plane. So, no matter where they say it is, my stick is always in the same plane. So this is how you see it from front and this would be how you would see it from the side, notice how my stick, always stays in the same plane.
