From the UK - Just 20 minutes of physical activity each week can help reduce stress. A survey of 20,000 men and women, of which 3,000 were suffering from stress or anxiety, found that those who played sports at least once a week were more than 30% less likely to suffer from mental health problems, and those who did rigorous housework were 20% less likely.
From Pennsylvania - A survey of 1,400 people from 60 countries has revealed that one in five people use cognition-enhancing drugs such as Ritalin to improve focus, concentration and memory. Most of the respondents were involved in the fields of science, engineering or education, and while the survey is not a scientific study, the results suggest that use of prescription drugs by academics for non-medical purposes may be common.
And finally, from Buffalo - A new drug has been developed that may protect healthy tissue during radiation treatments for cancer. Researcher's injected mice with a compound called Flagellin, before exposing them to radiation and found that the injection not only protected the cells, but also strengthened the immune system. Human testing will begin in a few months.
