The Benefits of Surfing
Travis: Today, we’re giving you extreme ways to look great. Now find a new sport, you’ll love to do is a great way to do just that.
Now Hunter Joslin’s — his passion is surfing. He created a product that actually helps anyone to train to surf even if you don’t live near the ocean, right Hunter?
Hunter: Absolutely. The name is the Indo Board which means indoor board so that you can do any board sport. But I am a surfer so I created it for surfers that they have to surf slide up. What are you going to do? So you get on to the board and you got to take the flip-flops off, surf’s up.
So that’s the same musculature that’s working and its core based posture. Because if you’re in here you can’t move. If you’re up here posture, the core is engaged to make the posture work.
Travis: And Drew and Jim you know, Lisa, spend some time in the water right?
Lisa: Yes.
Male: We have.
Travis: Have you ever done this?
Lisa: Great. I haven’t done this. This would be the first time.
Travis: Look at this.
Hunter: And you got to be able to do all the movements.
Male: Well you know what the great thing about surfing Travis, since you’re outdoors, you’re in the ocean meditating, in spirituals long as people aren’t wanting you over, it really does. That was me. That’s a few years ago. Look at that. I’m going to strike to pause one more time.
Male: Now that they’d surfing for years and then Travis actually got me into stand up , have me boarding, I like that because it’s — you’re standing up the whole time paddling around when you’re not on wave and you’re actually, it’s a great core workout I found.
Travis: And like the Indo Board you actually don’t need waves to stand up on power board, the key to all of this though is you’re working your core muscles and surfing is a great example of a total body workout. First of all and your legs you’re using all of your leg muscles in particular, your gluteus muscles, even the balancing of your calf muscles. But more importantly when we talk about the core we’re talking about your abdominal muscles as well as your low back stabilizing muscles and again the reason that core muscle development is so important is that it improves like you said your posture and it’s also the way you present yourself to the world. Good core and you got a very powerful midsection, so —
Lisa: What else did you say before, it’s that surfing is actually really good for women because that builds upper body strength and that core and a lot of women are weak in their upper body strength so —
Travis: And the paddling is good for your biceps and triceps but I do have to caution everyone at home. What Hunter is doing right now is dangerous. He’s been doing this for 30 plus years. We’re on a modified Indo Board, this is the no fall or be it still very unstable so can we key up some music?
Hunter: The object is do not let the board touch the ground. Now bring your shoulders over your hips, it’s going to keep your posture good, shoulders up.
Lisa: All right, you stay in your spot. Good job.
Travis: And I think this is easier than that thing. And the take home here is that this is something you use your own pace but another fun workout you can do rain or shine great workout, great fun. Good job buddy. Thank you so much. We appreciate it.
