Nabil: Body Worlds II offers their visitors a truly unique exhibition on the anatomy of the human body. Showcasing some displays that are show to get under your skin. I’m Nabil with watchmojo.com and I’m joined by Director Sebastian (ph) what is the purpose of this exhibition?
Sebastian For Dr. Von Hagens, this sends a message about the choices we make. If you decide to smoke, if we eat too much, if we don’t exercise we pay basically the results.
So people get to see for example a pair of lungs that was healthy at the time of death and also a smoker’s pair of lungs. It's actually outstanding, what you see there.
Nabil: Who is Dr. Gunther von Hagens?
Sebastian: Dr. Von Hagens is from Germany. As he started studying anatomy, he wanted to make discoveries in this medical field. He patented this plastination process in 1977 by trial and error and succeeded eventually and took 20 years to put this exhibit together.
Nabil: Who should come to see Body Worlds II? Are the specialists in this field or the general public?
Sebastian: Finally it gives acces to everybody to have access to the human body.
Nabil: Why are real body’s used as a pose to plastic models?
Sebastian: General visitors have told us that knowing that it's for real, that this person has pre-lived has a bigger impact to them in terms of the scientific nature of the exhibit.
Nabil: Where do these bodies come from?
Sebastian: A genuine full body donation program where people signed up or read about the process and sign up and give their body to science. All the bodies that have been used and plastinated whether there is specimens are full bodies had been given to science and were given consent by the person.
Nabil: Does this spark some controversy?
Sebastian: Change always brings controversy and opposition.
Of course, everybody has their apprehensions towards death, towards dead bodies. But once—everyone has made that reflection has thought about it. There are different ways to look at it. There’s the scientific way, there’s the spiritual learning from it as well and it’s all possible.
Nabil: What do you think has made this show so popular across the world?
Sebastian: The human body is the only machine that man has not mastered yet. So it's basically looking at yourself in the mirror. So the impact of something made artistically but when you look at it rationally, the scientific learning is very huge. There is nothing like this can have a bigger impact right now and it's an exiting project.
