This episode is brought to you by AwesomeDrinks.com where the best drinks begin and G Vine the first ever gin made from grape spirit.
Welcome to Common Man Cocktails. I’m your host Derrick Schommer. Today, we’re going to do the Boston Cocktail. So we’re going to need a cocktail glass. We’re only a few little way out of Boston so I figured a Boston Cocktail would be appropriate for our setting and maybe you could experience a little of Boston here.
I really don’t know what this has to do with Boston but I’m sure it’s got some good, cool historic legacy. We’re going to use the G Vine gin, one of our sponsors this week and we’ve got two of them. Isn’t that cool? Because you know, double your pleasure.
We’re going to use some Apricot Brandy to give it a taste of apricots, just a dash of the grenadine, just a little; it’s going to lighten it up. Lighten it, meaning make it light red and a half ounce of lemon juice, freshly squeezed by my own hands so this is all a lot of hard work and we’re just going to garnish it for fun with a little lemon. Why not, right?
Alright so let’s get going. What we’re going to need is to do some measure. We’ve got our G Vine Boston shaker. Let’s start with the gin we are going to do 1-1/2 ounces of gin. It’s a nice floral gin, Floraison. I do not speak Italian very well or whatever.
We’re going to do equal parts, another 1-1/2 ounces of the Apricot brandy. Smooth it out; give it a cool apricot flavor. Also, it’s going to darken it a little bit. Drop in our lemon juice. Let’s do a little splash. Now, the technical term for splash especially coming out of something like this or little more, really you’re going to get a little sweetness but I’m going a lot on color here. We got a drip with diabetes doing that. This stuff is sweet.
We’re going to ice this up. Let’s see, we’re going to use our cocktail glass so we’re not going to need ice. Put this in your freezer, people. That’s the way to do this.
You got people coming over. You give them a warm cocktail glass. It’s not going to be as fun, mix for them. Go through the work to squeeze lemons and limes and all that jazz. At least go through the work and put in some of these in your freezer. That’s my ranch. Alright, we’ll shake it up. That’s the cool ability of really getting that ice in there just shaking it and getting the energy to disperse and make a nice chill drink, blend it all together well. That should do.
I don’t want to fill it too much especially if you’re serving this to guests then you’ve got to bounce it over do them. They’re going to spill it on the floor, or you spill it on the floor that’s like alcohol abuse. Alright, there you go, slightly pink. It kind of looks like a Cape Codder which is ironic considering it’s from Boston, Cape Cod next to Boston. You’re getting a little floral apricot.
I can’t figure out exactly who’s got the alcoholic properties here. There is a little alcoholic twist near the end; kind of goes right at the nasal passages. I think it’s the gin but I’m not sure. There is a little sour apricot because you’re mixing the lemons and the apricot flavors together. Maybe it’s me because the name is Boston Cocktail but I’m getting cranberries. Like a little cranberry cocktail not cranberry juice raw. Cranberry juice is kind of bitter but the sugary version of cranberry juice.
Not too bad, it’s got a slightly sour cocktail. So if you really like the super sweet or just slightly sweets, I categorize this as slightly sour not enough to really just turn your face inside out but you definitely hit the little acidic hinge you know if you have a little lemonade so you get that kind of effect. Still, I think it’s a refreshing cocktail. It’s kind of neat to just sip it, maybe watch an episode of Lost. This would probably make a good cocktail because it doesn’t make you want to drink it really fast. So there you go, that’s your Boston cocktail.
And this cocktail glass if you like this, these are from awesomedrinks.com. Check them out. If you’d go to awesomedrinks.com and you buy something, there’s a little drop down near the end which will tell you where did you hear about their website, there’s a little drop down pick, everydaydrinkers.tv, just so that they know where you’re hearing about them because that helps me. It shows that you guys are listening. You guys want some of this stuff and it’s valuable to you.
Speaking of value, talking about this last time we had a little contest. I’m going to buy from awesomedrinks.com two of these Tiki God Heads. You flip back to the Zombie episode, go to everydaydrinkers.tv, search for Zombie. You’ll see the episode where I fill one of these up, pretty powerful.
So what I want to do is give two of these away. I’ll buy them and I’ll ship them to you or have Awesome Drinks ship it to you. Either way, it’s free for you. Go to everydaydrinkers.tv, register if you haven’t registered already, sign in, leave a comment and that qualifies you for the drawing on the 30th of April.
Also, check out G Vine gin and then you’ll know what this will taste like. This is your Boston Cocktail. We’re teaching you how to drink.
