Today we are going to talk about some of the plants that maybe you would think, “Well, how can I put that in my garden, it is tropical.” We will talk about some of those tropicals and why they are just so terrific for your garden.
First one I am going to start with this a Castor Bean plant. In this particular plant we have got in garden and it is just totally not belonging here. This is actually pollinated by something called the tropical fruit bat and I do not have any tropical fruit bats but nonetheless I grow this because of the great burgundy leaves, the wonderful shape of this plant. It is also got this terrific seed pods and the seed pods get this brilliant, brilliant sort of reddish almost plumish color.
The plant got so big this year, they added up having cutting to stick it but it just so that stand alone this will not tolerate a frost or a freeze. So once I get a frost it is done but I would like to do is I can actually harvest the seed pods, so I this seed pods, I can open this up here and this a little seed in here. And what I do is I take this in next year, I can actually plant this, I can put this in the pot, I can started inside next April and then put another one back out here and get the exact same plant in 2007.
