Rickie: Hi! My name is Rickie from Dayton, Ohio. After a couple of beers I want a cigarette, I heard other people have that same craving, why is it? Andrea King: Well, Rickie it's interesting both alcohol and nicotine act on brain reward pathway, so we know from laboratory research when we give people different doses of alcohol that they will report higher cravings for cigarettes and we have shown this even in people who are light smokers or occasional smokers. So it's a powerful effect that drinking alcohol in higher doses will certainly increase one's cravings for cigarette.
