The Difference Between Fabrics

Dear friends, welcome to watchmojo on the internet. Here today, your designer Eros Griati to answer all the questions that you may have in regards to interior design and fashion. Today I’m gonna talk to you about the differences that exist between fabrics that are used for upholstery and window treatment, especially that it has to do with cost and dimensions. We have three examples here. The first one is a fabric used for upholstery, one of the reasons why this is used for upholstery is the resistance and durability of the fabric. Most fabric comes with samples, in most of the stores where you walk in, you’re not gonna find swatches or samples to take with you, this is where the designer comes in. The designer can come into your home and pick colors, choose materials as well as fabrics. The designer can order the fabric and a swatch will arrive to the designer or to your home, where we can check the light on the fabric. At the same time we can have a lot of information about the durability of the fabric in the back of the card of the fabric. This card contains information as to the rotation that were done in the fabric. What this means is that a needle is place on the back of the fabric that contains a round middle tip, starts rotating on the back of the fabric. On the moment that fabric snaps or breaks, that’s where the durability test ends. That information is registered in the back of the card. When a test is done and the test results are weak, that is registered in the back of the fabric. But when the test results are really high, and it means that the fabric is quite durable, you can rest assure the fabric is gonna be expensive. Keep in mind that it might last years and years and years longer than the fabric that will cost less money. So to invest money the moment that you’re doing an upholstery job is important and sometimes price as it is in this case relates to the quality of the fabric. Another thing we have to remember when choosing fabric is fabric for window treatment. Not all of them are made equal. Some of them are 54 inches wide. Usually the fabrics that contains shear are made to be 100 and 8 inches wide. The reason for this is due to the stitching that happens on to the fabric is more visible. So we try to get fabrics that are lot wider and in this case we’re gonna less of the stitching, but once again you have to keep in mind most of these fabrics are produced in Europe and the cost can be quite high. In this case, this fabric by Pollack, is a lot more expensive than anything else that there is in the market in this category. It’s made of 98 percent wool and silk. So what happens, materials affect the cost as well as the design, but we have got to be honest once again on this one. A home where this has been used for window treatment is going to be spectacular compared to a home where you have used a shear that’s only worth 5 dollars. Other thing that you have to keep in mind are textiles that are used for their design in clothing industry. This textile offer very little durability and they’re usually seasonable items. Seasonal items are items you’re gonna only wear for about three months or four months that is the idea of creating a collection for the season. We don’t operate that way, but this is the way designs are created. So the durability in this fabric is very little. If you go to a store that sells fabric for clothing and decide to use it for interior design purposes, you have to be aware the durability is quite limited. And so you are at your own risk.
