Jason: Hey everybody here, it’s Jason again for McInTECH along with AKAFurious and today we probably have something different for you and that is what is it Linux. And we are going to talk about the difference between KDE and Gnome. And from my opinion, I think KDE is better than Gnome. No offense to those out there.
AKAFurious: Just to get this, just to get this straight, they’re all X window managers and KD is more like Windows and Gnome is more like Linux. And if you don’t know what X window manager is, it’s a windowing system mainly used in like UNIX like operating systems like Linux, Lunex and all of that other stuff. And there’s like so many different types of—
Jason: It’s graphical, I mean.
AKAFurious: That’s what X Gnome manager is. Yeah that is what the X Gnome manager is.
Jason: Yeah but I think Gnome is—
AKAFurious: Yeah, those are X window manager.
Jason: Yes, but you’re talking right Gnome, aren’t you? Because Gnome is too basic, KDE is—
AKAFurious: Yeah, yeah Gnome.
Jason: Okay, what about Gnome?
AKAFurious: Yeah, Gnome is basic but it’s if it gives you the more Linux and UNIX like you get upward on this out of that.
Jason: Alright, let’s see what the chat room has to say. I have elite here and he says KDE has more graphical tools that are helpful to many and that he also says KDE also offers you the option to change your settings to be a certain style, a Mac style or Windows style. Of course I love that. For example, that will affect the way Windows and keyboard shortcuts behave like you can use Windows keyboard to do this and that I found themes much easier than installing Gnome. Okay yeah, I’m just a KDE person but I guess yeah Gnome has got its good things to its genuine, it’s unique.
AKAFurious: But I also use different. I use other popular X windows managers like Fluxbox, KWin, Metacity and all the other ones.
Jason: You know Linux can’t just carry Xcms. Xcms just calling and seeing that Linux cares and you can get a lot of it. It’s actually getting easier and easier. In fact one thing, it’s free so you don’t have to worry about downloading that hot software or go on paying hundreds and hundreds of dollars, I mean Linux has got everything but you know—
AKAFurious: There’s also other types of Barrel and Compiz, that Compiz fusion and Metacity except W—I can’t remember.
Jason: I want to play with Barrel. I was told that Barrel is no more.
AKAFurious: It’s out of date.
Jason: Apparently, it’s of Compiz Fusion or something.
AKAFurious: Compiz, Compiz Fusion.
Jason: So, I want to play with. That would be so awesome. You can like—
AKAFurious: Compiz and Barrel fused into one to make Compiz Fusion.
Jason: If you take—okay, for those out there watching, if you think of the way the Mac effects are and then you look at the Flip 3D in Windows Vista, Barrel or Compiz Fusion just totally crashes them like to say forget it. Like when it comes to Barrel of Compiz Fusion or whatever same thing now I guess, you’re totally just like “Wow!” like “That is so cool! That is awesome. I haven’t even got in that far to run that version yet in Linux yet I’m going to eventually play with it when I get the time and so.”
AKAFurious: Yeah, but those are called composite windows managers and Barrel and Compiz use together to make Compiz Fusion which is the combination of all projects.
Jason: What’s your favorite version of Linux? I have in like Debian.
AKAFurious: I like them. I like a lot. I like Dam. No, Dam Small is okay, Ubuntu, yeah Ubuntu Studios.
Jason: Ubuntu’s probably got to the top.
AKAFurious: —Yellow Dog Linux.
Jason: Don’t forget Red Hat.
AKAFurious: I say—was okay. What else is okay? Oh yeah, Open Suse is okay. It uses KDE. Yellow Dog I said is okay. Savion is awesome, sorry I can’t even pronounce it.
Jason: Savion, Savion same thing just like Ubuntu—
AKAFurious: Yeah, Dam Small. Any types of Linux or UNIX distributions are fine with me. But I never use Debian a lot. I only use it like a few times.
Jason: Just to remember that—sorry there’s a delay between Ventrilo. Just remember that their links is based on Linux and so is Mac. So, here’s my question for Fierce and C-Themes, it would be the Linux lover right here, no offense. Do you think Linux is getting that—
AKAFurious: And my audio is not going with my video.
Jason: No, yeah, there’s seems to be a delay in your stream.
AKAFurious: Yes there is. Big delay.
Jason: Yeah, it’s very odd. So, what do you think? Do you think links is going to take over Mac in PC or in Windows or what?
AKAFurious: Not Mac because Mac is based on UNIX but it might take out Windows because I don’t really like Windows that much anymore as I used to. And that’s why I have—well, you might not see this but you might see this on my screen and on the video.
Jason: You’re going to stickers. What a guy.
AKAFurious: I’m holding a bunch of stickers as you could see.
Jason: That’s crazy man. You can always count on AKAFurios. And he’s quite the guy. Well, if you have any questions or comments.
AKAFurious: And they’re not going away.
Jason: Yes, that’s going to stay for a while. Anyways, that’s what we have basically to bring in here, it’s a little you know.
AKAFurious: That’s all we have for today.
Jason: Yeah, little AKAFurios time with this beautiful Linux as he’s always saying “I like Linux!” we all know, it’s pretty good to get into. I got into it for a while. I run it as a server for a year and that was just absolutely phenomenal even on an audio computer but if you have any questions or anything, feel free to email us Info@McInTEC.net. You can also visit our website McInTEC.net. You can go to live.McInTEC.net and join us on our live chat. We are on the wild ride RSC network. If you have a client, our channel is pound at McInTEC. And you know, just let us know what you’re interested in. And we are communications in technology. It doesn’t have to be just about computers. It can be about anything. And tonight we thought we do it so—because there’s a little debate going on KDE and Gnome which is part of Linux and I feel that Linux is not talked about as much.
So, stop by anytime and thanks for watching and we’ll chat at you later.
