The Effectiveness Singulair Asthma Medication for Children Male: There’s a medicine that’s advertised and what they try push is an allergy medicine called Singulair. Alfin G. Vicencio: Yes. Male: Do you use Singulair at all? Alfin G. Vicencio: Yes. Singulair is a medication that can be very effective in some children who have asthma and in some other children it doesn’t seem to make it much very difficult. Male: Well, I find about a half kind of works half it doesn’t’ work. I just don’t know which group it is at the beginning. It’s not an outrageous cause if I might try it. How long would you put a kid on Singulair as a controller and say it is working and not working. What kind of a trial period would you give in? Alfin G. Vicencio: I usually give it a few weeks. Vicencio: Yes, to be honest with you for somebody who’s having very frequent symptoms, my preference is to start a low-doses of inhaled steroid. The reason for that is that we know that most children with asthma or similar type of the problem will respond to an inhaled corticosteroid as you already mentioned and children who are in Singulair some of them do respond and some of them don’t respond even if they do have very, very well documented asthma.
