Welcome to Common Man Cocktails. I’m your host Derrick Schommer. And today, we’re going to cover the electric lemonade. It’s going to include some electric, Blue Curacao, some sweet and sour because you want to mix it up a little bit. We’re going to have some light rhum. Topped with 7up, we’re going to garnish it with lemonade so it would only make sense that you would garnish with a whole lemon.
So, we got our shaker and all the other crap that goes along with it. So let’s get started, shall we? This by the way is a user submitted recipe. We got this today if you want to submit your recipes that you like, that you enjoy, that you drink all year round maybe in the summer or maybe in the winter, it doesn’t matter. We have a hot buttered rum coming down once we get to that. I got to make that. That’s a little more complex. Just send it to dschommer@everydaydrinkers.com.
Anyway let’s get started. So what we’re going to do is we’re going to—check it out, Boston Shaker. These are the ones that you usually see at the bar, bang them on top and they stick, you hope, then you start shaking and trying not to make a mess of yourself. So this will be our first attempt with the Boston Shaker. So if I get soaked, we’ll add it in and you won’t notice.
Alright. So let’s get started. We’re going to start with—let’s go with the light rum. We’re going to do one ounce of everything and then you just top off with the 7up. So one ounce of light rum, this is a 10 Can Rum, it’s a little sweeter. And we’re going to try and sweeten this up a little bit. I don’t know, most lemonade that I have had tends to be sweet probably because they pack it with sugar. You think lemonade is sour but—maybe a homemade lemonade. Let’s go with the Blue Curacao, check that out. That’s pretty blue. That’s cool. Fun with Curacao. You can do all kinds of cool things with this, a lot of Polynesian drinks. It’s kind of sweet. Let’s smell that up. It smells like a coconut. It must be coconut. It’s new. I know that you just pour it and drink that makes cool colors. But there is some coconut going on in there. We’re going to do our one ounce of sweet and sour to sweeten it and sour it. It’s green but you’re never going to know because the Curacao is just overwhelmingly cool. I think it does a little bit but not much. Perfect.
Now, we’re just going to load that thing with ice and I happen to have a little. Alright, we got that sucker full of ice right there. This might be a little loud. Shake it up. There we go. All the goodies are now on the bottom of the content. Crack that guy a little. I hear it fizzing. Smells tropical, I’m liking it. We really would like—I’m thinking a high ball glass. Collins Glasses, if you could find Collins Glasses, send me an email. I’m having a hard time finding a good Collins Glass. So let’s use a high ball glass right here. Fill that with ice.
Now, we don’t want to pour the contents of that in here because there is ice in there and we just kind of partially melt it. We want nice fresh ice to keep it nice and cold. So we’re going to strain that sucker right up. Now, you’re probably saying, “Well, that’s not enough.” It’s just fine because 7up is like 100% natural now. More crisp and refreshing than ever before it says. I believe it. Now, you could let it naturally carbonate in there. We’re going to go ahead and just stir it up a little bit to get that nice and mixed well.
I like it. What do you think? Blue, kind of like Hawaiian. If you’ve been to Hawaii, this is what the water looks like. I really want to be in Hawaii right now.
This is weird. It’s very refreshing. It’s got the right carbonation. A little sour but overall, you’re going to find that this is a sweeter drink. If you’re into a well-balanced drink, I’m going to say that this is a little more balanced than the sweet side. It’s got the cool coconut flavors. It’s very smooth. It’s like drinking a soda. Plus, there’s more alcohol than regular soda, since that doesn’t have any. Definitely refreshing. Great for summertime sitting out in the sun. Just drink lots of water so you don’t dehydrate and die.
That’s the electric lemonade with garnish. Check me out on Twitter by the way. It’s Twitter.com/EverydayDrinker. Send me a little message and let me know what you think o this show, what you like to see. If you want to send recipes, you have 140 characters to do it but you might be able to fit them in there. Other than that, check us out in iTunes for our featured podcast in the food category. Again, a little higher this time than last time, maybe we’ll stick. Send us some comments. Put your comments in iTunes, it will make us stick better in the featured list and we can get a bigger audience, which is growing.
Anyway, I’m Derrick Schommer and we’re teaching you how to drink.
