Welcome to the sixth episode in the Finer Points of Facebook Series. When you’re looking at photos, you may notice something that says tag. This means that whoever took the photo added your name to it which means that your friends will also see that you’ve been tagged in a photo and will be able to see it even if it’s a photo that you didn’t post.
This can be bad for a number of reasons. Mainly, someone can tag you in a photo that you don’t want to share on Facebook and all of your friends will see it. One way to avoid this is to quickly untag yourself if you’ve been tagged.
So, first go to your Settings, Account Settings and Notifications. You want to be sure that you have email notification setup for when you’re tagged in a photo. This means you will be emailed right away if you’ve been tagged so you can quickly log into Facebook to see the photo.
If you decide that you don’t want to be tagged in the photo, then simply click on Remove tag and you won’t be tagged to the photo any longer. The photo will still be there but you won’t be linked to it from your friends account.
Another way to prevent this is that you can choose to make photos taken of you private so you don’t need to worry at all. Go to your Settings, then Privacy, then Profile. Go to Photos tagged of you and choose a Customize option.
Here, you can choose to have photos tagged of you made only visible to you. That means that if someone tags you in the photo, then only you’ll be able to see it. The photo will still be posted on Facebook but only in your friends account and all of your friends won’t see it unless their friends with that person too.
Remember, there are ten parts to this series, so don’t forget to check out the other episodes on the Finer Points of Facebook Series.
