Welcome to the ninth episode in the Finer Points of Facebook series. You may want your Profile to look different to certain people. Go to your Settings, select Privacy Setting. Then go to Profile. Here you can choose exactly what you want shown and who it’s shown to.
For example, I can choose my personal information be shown to everyone, my networks and friends, friends of friends, only my friends or I can customize this one section. I can type in specific friend names that I don’t want to be able to see this section of my profile. This allows you to post things to Facebook and not worry about your boss or coworkers seeing them.
Just enter in their names and they won’t have access to it. You can do this for all parts of your profile like photos tagged of you, videos tagged of you and you can make it, so only you can see information as well.
Go through each section and think about who you want looking at the information it will contain. To see how a friend will see your profile, just enter in their name here. And now you can see that my basic information, like hometown and birthday are not visible to the friend I removed from that section of my settings.
To add them back, just go back to your Settings and click on the X next to their name. You can do this with your contact information as well.
If you want to completely remove yourself from Facebook, then just go to your Account Settings and click on Deactivate. You’ll be shown some friends that will miss you if you deactivate your account but then, you can choose to add while you’re leaving.
And choose to opt out of any further notifications from Facebook. If you don’t opt out, then you’ll still be able to be tagged in photos, invited to events and so on.
Finally, click on Deactivate and you’ll be all through. If at anytime you want to reactivate your account, you can simply log in with your user name and password and reactivate it.
Remember, there are ten parts to this series, so don’t forget to check out the other episodes in the Finer Points of Facebook Series.
