Ivan: Hi, my name is Ivan. I am from Florida, When I had the flu, what is it mean when my green versus being clear? Carole Marks: Ivan, that's the question we commonly get in the office. The flu virus can cause both green or clear -- the color by itself doesn't alone diagnose whether there is a bacterial or viral infection. Although, some bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis can typically have green color along with other symptoms. In fact you can have a bacterial infection super imposed or in addition to a viral infection, should you have those and your flu type symptoms do not respond flu treatment, then we strongly advise you to go see your doctor.
