Christopher: Hello everyone! This is Christopher from www.watchmojo.com. Today I am joined with Christine Hollander who is a representative from Ford and she is going to show us some of the technologies and things we can look forward to from the company this year.
Christine Hollander: Right behind you is the Ford Escape Hybrid which was the first world hybrid in an SUV. Basically, every time you brake, the power that's left from the brake system is generated. It's called generative braking and that is stored in a battery as electricity and your vehicle moves forward. It's beneficial in the city, because there is a lot of stop and go and if you press the paddle, you could go up to I would say 42 kilometers an hour before the gas engine kicks in. However, on the highway because your gas engine is also helped by your electric engine, both of them work together, therefore you still get some efficiencies on the highway.
Our new engine technology is called EcoBoost. It performs like a V8 engine, but has fuel economy of the V6 engine. It also reduces C02 emissions by 50%. It's an engine that we will be launching next year with our Lincoln MKS and further on we will transferring this technology to all our lineups from smalls cars all the way to our pick-ups.
Christopher: There is a two-tiered solution for those of us who are concerned about fuel efficiency and the environment. So you would have Hybrid as one. But this is a separate option. It's not something used in conjunction with Hybrid.
Christine Hollander: Correct. This is our short term option. If you want -- this is the immediate. Mid term, we announced that we are reducing the weight of our vehicles and we are also going to offer more diesel engines in the future. Long term we already have a fleet of Focuses out in Vancouver which work on hydrogen and we are testing that, we are testing fuel cells, those are technologies that are right now are in the testing stages, because there is no infrastructure. You can't go to the gas station and get hydrogen.
Christopher: Often a technology, no matter how beneficial it is, if causes us to have to totally redo our daily habits, people are going to be resistant to it.
Christine Hollander: You don't have to adapt your lifestyles to the vehicle. I mean, we did it for you.
