Daddy Brad: Family Game—that’s a great time. Whether you are playing the indoor game like Gassy Gus or an outdoor games like Chuck-O Pro a.k.a. corn hole. A little friendly competition is a great way to bring the family together.
Daddy Clay: Are you just so happy that you got to say corn hole? It’s not really—
Daddy Brad: Corn’s hole!
Daddy Clay: Here, it’s soft and that’s all. Well, I can say this. I also love game night but if you got kids like mine, a little sibling rivalry can kind of creeping there, get a little competitiveness going, and next, you know, you’re hosting bigger fest 2008.
Daddy Brad: That’s why this week’s Lab is all about having family game night without getting an ‘alter-nova’—boom!
Daddy Clay: So, how do you play an indoor game like Ned’s Head here. You know, without the kids, we’ll losing their minds. One thing you can do is, make sure the kids know that playing a game is a special privilege and conditional on their good behavior. The next thing you could do is pick a game that the kids can collaborate together against you or against machine. And finally, consider giving prizes to everyone, whether it is a privilege or a little reward, from first through the last place all the same, based on successful and peaceful completion of the game.
This time, I think, I want to go ahead and go to the nose. That’s is a—okay, that’s a dirty diaper, off from his nose. I know that feeling.
Daddy Clay: Outdoor games like Chuck-O Pro are great for the kids. It gets them up in moving. It also helps the coordination, but it can bring up that competitive nature that leads to conflict. So, you need to institute a rules committee of one—you, if things get too hot, you can call a time out. You know, don’t let them do the excessive talking—“I’m beating you, yeah! Yeah!” make them chill.
But you know what, don’t be too quick to throw that flag. Let your kids have the opportunity to work it out together. You know, learn about the competition and also working things out.

Daddy Clay: So Daddy Brad, what’s behind all these game night conflict thing?
Daddy Brad: Classic sibling rivalry—Classic sibling whatever, you know, wherever it be going.
Daddy Clay: Yes, I guess, it’s a—it’s obvious, you got kids and the family, they’re going to be at different ages and developmental stages and that’s a rife with opportunities for conflict, you know, given the game night.
Daddy Brad: Yes, you know. It’s tough when you are dealing with games on kids of different ages, or be with a handicap, or do you let the little ones stand a little closer?
Daddy Clay: No, no, here’s why. Because, you know, I think that the stakes are probably much higher for the older kid in terms of pride and if you give the younger kids too much on an advantage, you are looking for meltdown with the older kid. And besides, as a an older child myself, I just think that’s more fair.
Daddy Brad: I think, it depends on the differences in the ages. You know, I have to let my little girl have a leg up just so she can play with her older brother. I think, that’s fair.
Daddy Clay: You’re a younger a child, weren’t you?
Daddy Brad: Yeah!
Daddy Clay: Yes, that make sense. But how about this. It’s another controversial topic, okay. When you are playing in game against your kids, you dad, do you let them win?
Daddy Brad: Id they have any skill of the game, and a small probability of winning, I kicked their ass. You know, I like to set a nice and fair level of competition and then just roll them into the ground.
Daddy Clay: I don’t know. I can’t do that. I will cheat to let my kids win. Because I know, we need to find that success and have fun in the game. I don’t need to pound them in, you know that. Anyway, my kids are probably be soft, a l
