SpeakerMale1: We are here at Las Vegas speed way great little test track right adjacent to Nellis Air force base outside of Las Vegas. Test driving, a really remarkable machine this is one of a kind hand built multi million dollar concept car, a Mustang designed by Fabrizio Giugiaro and the Italdesign in Italy. This was the hit at the Los Angles Auto Show and we are getting an exclusive opportunity now to put ourselves behind the wheel and ring out this fabulous looking Mustang
SpeakerMale2: Fabrizio Giugiaro styling director for Italdesign was on hand to watch his creation in action.
Fabrizio Giugiaro: This Mustang is an icon is a project that is really risky because when you touch an icon, when touch a car and a brand with a lot of story it's very critical, so we wanted to show that we are also able to maintain the identity of our brand.
SpeakerMale2: Behind its cutting Italian design the Mustang Giugiaro still has the heart of a classic American muscle car.
SpeakerMale1: Underneath, it's got foremen's hardware done up by Ford racing. The chassis is standard mustang but it's been upgraded with racing suspension, stiffer shocks, it's got Brembo brakes, front and rear and of course upfront, you can hear that 4.6 liter V8 super charged to 500 Horsepower. This thing really goes across for gentle with it here given its rare and valuable status but you can see how much fun I am having out at here Vegas speed way today
SpeakerMale2: Visually the Giugiaro concept captures the dramatic flare of Italian design or still reinforcing the classic freedom and sprit epitomized by Mustang. Outside a longer hood short and rear overhang and a wider stance give the concept a more compact flash back feel. The smoke tail lights which honor the original 1964 mustang arranged in aggressive arrow shape. Like wise arrow shaped louver panels replace the production mustang rear side widows.
SpeakerMale1: One of the most remarkable pieces of this Mustang is this all glass one piece roof above my head. Fabrizio Giugiaro says that he put this in the car to give a real sense of airiness and visibility and drama, something that sports car really needs. I have never been in car like this, I must say where I have an absolutely unobstructed view of the sky ahead. You will also notice that the interior is quite advanced looking, it's got a simulated horse hide leather covering the inside, it's got rear view cameras instead of rear view mirrors. So I am actually watching the view behind me on the cameras rather than using rear view mirrors .Also very cool is the scissor doors much like a Lamborghini except these are electronically operated, push a button and they rise up and out giving this particular Mustang its real design flare.
SpeakerMale2: So the question is, does this international flavored Mustang drive and feel more like an Italian exotic or an American muscle car .
SpeakerMale1: Despite all the Italian influence in Fabrizio Giugiaro design here in Italdesigns work on this car it still feels very American. It's got that big V8 muscle power, it's got those brawny tires big brakes feels like a pony car, still feels like a Mustang but it has very ,very unique flare and I think that's a real complement to Fabrizio Giugiaro that he was able to retain that iconic Mustang personality in this dramatic concept car.
SpeakerMale2: For more information on the Giugiaro Mustang concept see the March 2007 issue of Motor Trend.
