Hi! I am Rich Hogan from the Whitetail Golf Resort, and today's video is on how to properly swing the golf club. We are going to work now, on grip. The grip of the golf club, is the most important thing. We want to try to keep the golf club, in the left three fingers, for a right hander and a left hander we are going to keep in the left hand in the low three fingers.
There's three different types of grips, one is what we call an interlocking grip, where for a right hander, the index finger of the left hand and the little finger of the right hand interlock, the golf club. At this point we are going to hold the club at this level, and at this point, we are going to call this portion of the golf club the top and we are going to have our thumb on the left hand resting on the top, interlocking grip, index finger of the left hand, the little finger of the right hand, both those are going to lock together.
The second grip is what we call an overlap grip, where the left hand stays on the golf club some more, to the interlocking grip. But we are going to take the little finger of the right hand, and it's going to overlap the index finger of the left hand.
The next grip is called a Ten finger grip. Where all ten fingers, similar to a baseball grip, or a baseball bat. People with small hands were going to utilize this, a little bit more. The ten finger grip, people with small fingers, short fingers, they are going to be able keep more of their hands on the golf club.
Properly holding the golf club is going to give the opportunity to get the club face back to the ball square, and it's important that you have both hands on the golf club in the proper manner. Holding on to the golf club, throughout the golf swing is important, that we keep a nice firm grip on the club, not so firm that your hands are going to start to turn yellow. But just tight enough, that the golf club is not going to spin in our hands.
So, holding the golf club, you should hold it firm enough; interlock, overlap, or use the ten finger grip, just so that the golf club will not spin in your hands. Once we put the club in motion, it's important to be able to get the golf club back to the point of impact.
Next, thing we are going to work on is the stance an how to properly set up to the golf ball.
