As Gem found out yoga provides a really broad, really in depth workout when you get
used to it and get used to the principles and practice. You get balanced training,
flexibility training and strength training sort of all world into one very different kind of
workout.
I think Gem comments about looking back on what it was like in his first class and really
feeling like as he said free is something a lot of people feel when you try something new
but there’s comments about what happened after a year when he really felt tremendous
amount of satisfaction and the rewards that came with practice. I think it’s worth
enduring those first few sessions or maybe a little bit out of your comfort zone.
I think Gem hit the nail on the head when said that I’m working my back muscles that I
don’t work in the course of what I do everyday. We all spend a lot of time hunched over
leaning forward in the car at our office on the computer, whatever it is we do during the
day so to do the back bend and opening up type exercises you learn in yoga can really put
your back in a better sense of balance.
I think you have to pick something you’re going to enjoy and if you find over the first
few classes it’s really not you. It’s okay to try something else but it’s also helpful to set
up some goals and keep yourself motivated. You know Gem said I want to be able to
exercise with my kids when I get older and they get older and to have that kind of
motivation behind you is going to significantly increase your success rate.
I think everyone needs to be a positive role model in turns of exercise with younger
people children, grandchildren, studies have shown that children who grow up in
households where the parents exercise are much more likely to engage in exercise and
stay fit in there own life. It’s extremely important to exercise with your children and for
their benefit as well.
I think Gem’s ability to identify a goal as far off in the future is exercising with his kids
when they get older is a really powerful stimulus to get you to try something new and get
you into an exercise program that’s going to reap benefits for you along down the road.
