The History of Tee Ball

The history of Tee Ball, Branch Rickey, the owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers in the early 1950s is credited with the introduction of a flexible batting team made from an automobile radiator hose. It was used for practice by the great stars of that era, such as Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, and Gill Hodges.

Soon after, rules for a tee based baseball game were created and using a tee adapted from a cow milking device, the sport was widely played in Canada during the 1960s. Little League Baseball has offered T-Ball as an early learning experience for basic baseball skills and the game provides a natural transition to its minor league program.

Babe Ruth once said, "Start them when they're young. Teach them to play when they're 4 years old." Organized T-Ball has responded in a meaningful manner, providing a positive avenue for boys and girls to begin their baseball experience.
