This is Operation Nimrod, the storming of the Iranian Embassy in London in 1980 by the British special air service. In an attempt and the siege orchestrated by the democratic revolutionary movement for the liberation of Arabistan, the groups name for the oil which Iranian province of Khuzestan.
Of six members of the DRLMA, protesting against the regime of 00:27. they’ve taken over the building six days earlier on the 30th of April 1980. But the event had only escalated into a military operation when they killed one of the 26 hostages, 00:39 and through his body out of side.
This was the catalyst that may produce Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher give the go ahead to the SAS. Only 23 minutes after Lavasani was thrown out to the building. The power was cut and a charge was detonated in the stairwell.
SAS men blew in the window frames and some entered from the wood using stun grenade to cause maximum confusion. Five of the six hostage takers were killed in the 15 minute gun battle with one of the bodies laid to ground to have 76 gun shut wounds.
Another hostage was also killed by the hostage takers. The six and only surviving member of the group, 1:19 left the embassy with the hostages but was swiftly arrested.
Convicted for his role in the siege, he was sentenced to life imprisonment becoming eligible for parole in 2005. Due to the possibility of being tortured or executed to be deported to Iran, a British government was faced with the ironic situation of possibly being forced to grant in political assignment.
On the hold though, operation Nimrod has judged the success. At least until stories circus about hostage takers surrendering and still being shot by SAS soldiers. Significantly, the entire incident was captured in live television. With the BBC interrupting coverage of the world’s 2:02 to cover the unfolding crisis and report a 2:06 behind the car door for 45 minutes and one of the longest ever live to end news flashes.
