Hey! What’s up guys? It’s Aaron I’m going to teach you a song right now by The Steve Miller Band called “The Joker”.
When you start to listen to this song the first thing you will hear is the base line that sounds something like this.
[Demonstration]
Like that okay, I feel that I bust you different tabs depending on if you’re going to sing it I’m going to teach couple of the voice have play it, another way to play it sort of sounds it’s a different tabs and then we find it, so it’s like the consistency.
[Demonstration]
Okay, and that one I think is a little low I think this is the correct one.
[Demonstration]
The first one let me go through them all don’t worry, now the chords. The way that I’m going to teach you how to strum them is actually going to make it sound at that base line. Because the base line just play therefore is actually what a base guitar plays. But if you don’t know what’s a base guitar, guitar, base guitar is actually tuning E, A, D, G, B, I’d say regular guitar sorry regular guitar E, A, D, G, B, E.
Okay base guitar is the same as the tough forth so E, A, D, G that’s a base guitar, okay. So anything you play on base guitar you’re going to play on the top four strings in a regular guitar. But with strumming is going to use a few chords, it’s going to use a G, C, D and it sounds like this.
[Demonstration]
Okay, that’s all just strumming so you start on you’re G chord down-down-down-up and when I said C you’re also going to play Cadd9 everything is lot easier, okay. so you got you’re G chord down-down-down-up so it’s you’re C chord down-down-down-up to you’re D chord down-down-down-up back to you’re C chord down-up-down-up-down-up-down to your G chord down-down, it sounds something like this.
[Demonstration]
Okay, more time, G down-down-down-up switch to your C down-down-down-up and to your D down-down-down-up and to your C down-up-down-up-down-up and then the last down strum, okay. Before we got to the G. Actually take everything off the top strings and just do this because you want this.
[Demonstration]
Okay, so basically that mean is the very end, where you go to see it down-up-down-up and you finish with that G with two down strums. If you watch me so I get all, last out. Okay so really now it take.
[Demonstration]
G down-down-down-up to the C down-down-down-up to a D down-down-down-up to your Cadd9 down-up-down-up-down-up G chord down-down okay, so the sound is all like this.
[Demonstration]
Okay, just like that, for the most of the song it’s just basically I mean the same thing the only thing different is because “I'm a grinner, I'm a lover, and I'm a sinner, I play my music in the sun”, all right those chords are held out for a little bit long.
[Demonstration]
I guess I can try to sing that part that some people call me space cowboy yet but I’m not going to sing it, because you could listen to the song but I will just do this.
[Demonstration]
So ignore those lyrics. All right guys it’s basically a simple song the last part that I will teach you is that little base intro, so I’m going to give you three ways to play it, all right the first way, is with no capo and you’re going to basically start it out with two notes on the low E 3rd fret. And then you move to the A string and then you play two-three-three.
[Demonstration]
You move to the D string, you play open two, open-open and now on the A string you play open two-three-three-three-three-two open and you repeat, okay. so that’s how it’ really easy to look out for it yourself its like this.
[Demonstration]
That’s the first line, second way it’s a little more difficult but I thin it sounds, it’s more correct I think this is the right way to play. But you’re pointer finger is going to play two notes on the first fret below E and then you’re going to play one note on the third fret below E. Then move to your A string play open one-one then one again open D then one I’m sorry I did it three, twice and you’re going to play third probably, open A one-two-three-four-five on the first fret A, open A three.
[Demonstration]
Sorry I didn’t practice that but you can figure it out from the tabs. So one on the low E and play three notes first two on the low E first fret and your going to play one on the third fret and then your going to play four notes in the row in A string and your going to play open ones then first fret, one-two-three. Your going to play one note open on the D, two notes real quick back-to-back on the A string third fret, then you get back to the low E play three, open A five notes first fret A string, open third fret low E.
[Demonstration]
Hope that will help, the last thing you can do is you can play the first intro I’ve showed you. You can also play with the capo on the first fret and in the last wheel, I will show you the intro as you play two notes on the third fret at below E. This whole thing is on the low E string, okay, so the first two notes are third fret. And you play five-seven-eight-eight and you play 10-12-10-10-five-seven-eight-eight-eight-seven-seven-five and then repeat.
[Demonstration]
Like that, I will let you guys with you’re preferences. Good luck with the song and leave me a comment if you have a question. I’m not going to sing this one anymore. I’m not really familiar with it and I think I embarrassed myself with the singing a little bit together. So freeandeasyguitar.com guys take care.
