Now I understand for most people set up mine is unrealistic, but keep in mind that I do this for a living and this are the tools that help me produce the highest quality in the shortest amount of time, but the set up like this really is not necessary for recreational wood working last of this large tools are portable cousins for instance. This circular saw is essentially just a portable table saw, a jig saw can cut curves just like a band saw and if you become skilled in their use hand planes and bench planes can do the job of a planer and a jointer. Now, if you do not mind hands sanding you do not even need a power sander. So the two generalized set up that I recommend for fine wood working. What I call the big shop and the small shop. “Let us take a look”.
Let us talk about the small shop first maybe you got one car garage or even part of a one car garage. Some people have you know a back room in their house that they used. Either way you should still be able to get a significant amount of wood working done and you can make some pretty quality stuff with just a few basic tools. Now the table here I got a few good examples by know means and exhausted list of tools, but it will really get started and you got a lot of things done. First of all I got Jigsaw; okay this little guy actually is pretty versatile. You could put new different types of blades on it and you can cut a lot of different materials within anything from plywood to solid wood you can cut straight lines curves, just about anything. Over here we got a circular saw, this guy again another extremely versatile tool, but it probably best sawing for straight lines we try to cut curves. You might loose a limb, but this guy with the straight edge is a really effective for replacement for a table saw.
Okay, the next tool I would definitely recommend is a router. If you really going to buy one router I definitely would recommend you go with the plunge-based unit. This way it is just if you are making mortises if you do. It just makes everything a lot easier if you ever used the plunge-based router you know what I mean. The other option will be a Fix Base Router but again if router is a little bit less versatile, I would say the better suited for a table use. But this guy is a real handy for putting nice edges on finish pieces. Over here we got a Cordless Drill. We really this is just an essential household tools for as far as I am concern. So most people probably already have them and you do not need a fancy one for most wood workers a nice volt drill cordless is really going to do the job. And just fine for screws and drilling purposes. In the front here, I got some more traditional tools you know, you do not necessarily have to go on to spend a bunch of money on a Jointer and a Plainer. If you learn to master these two tools you can do a lot of those tasks by hand.
This is a Bench Plane and this guy is a Block Plane. They even say if these things are sharpen enough after few using it to a flat and a board and you want to get a nice flat surface if you get this sharp enough and you get this tune up just right you do not even need to sand the project when you are done, because you sober the fiber so perfectly that is actually smoother than you can ever get with sand paper. I do not believe it because I have not been able to do it. But anyway, this guy over here will talk about it these a little bit earlier just a basic set of chisels. There is a lot of times when you know maybe the Router bit gets into a corner and because of shape of the bit you can actually get a square corner with the round bit. You may need something like a chisel to chop away that extra material and a basic set of chisels you really should have to spend the whole lot of money on these if you got the money and you want to get a really, really nice set by all means do it but it is truly necessary to get the job done absolutely not.
Now, if you have enough room and you and you are lucky enough to build what I refer to us a big shop, you may want to get thing like your table saw, your jointer, your plainer, your band saw, the sky is the limit it really comes down to preference and a lot of cases. Aside from all of the things that said should be included in the small shop that where were you are going to start and then you want to move on to the big tools. Generally I consider there to be four major tools that any large shops should have starting with your Table Saw. A really decent Table Saw is going to be heart of your shop. Then if you are going to be milling your own wood if you going to take rough wood from the lumber dealer and you want to milled down to whatever size and you want it to be smooth, square in both sides, flatten parallel you are going to be need a Plainer and a Jointer.
The tool, it is really hard if you just get one this sort of work best if you have them both. The fourth tool that I would recommend is a Band Saw. A Band Saw is going to allow you to re-saw, really thick lumber down to thinner boards, it also going to allow you to make venire and of course, it is going to allow you to cut curves and just be a cut off tool really, but I do consider that to be another essential tool. From there again sky is the limit, you can get the Drum Sander, Drill press, Oscillating Spindle Sander it just a ton of things and a lot of ways that take this company get you to spend your money. So just be smart about your choices you do not need to buy the set just the basic tools will do but if you do have the room those are the four tools that I recommend starting with.
