Hello, and welcome to your Knee Pain Questions Asked, Week 7. My name is Bill Parravano. I have a question. This individual plays football, tore his ACL, his lateral meniscus and femoral condyle.
I had four knee surgeries in the last year. First they cleaned it out so I could move it, and they also had a lot of stuff done, just had it scoped and cleaned in July. It has pain all the time on the lateral side of the knee, which is on the outside of the knee. I have stiffness in my knee most of the time. I have done the shots with no help.
The doctors says my ACL is loose and wants to redo it. My thought is this will not help with the pain. What do you think?
Well, from all my experience that a surgery generally does not help with the pain, the surgery addresses an issue of something being broken or torn. There are some exceptions to that. However, for the most part, if your ACL is loose, I don't necessarily know that that's going to address the pain. If you want to tighten up the ACL, there is exercises that you can specifically do to address that looseness and build up the tendons and ligaments within the knee itself.
So actually if you go to my website, thekneepainguru.com, I do have one of the exercises called the Roman Chair that will help build up the tendon and ligaments strength in the knee itself.
I also have my book 'Stop Your Knee Pain Now', which goes into extensively all the different exercises that you can do to build up the strength of the tendons and ligaments within your knee.
The question also goes on, I was also wondering if you would recommend any deca shots. Now, I did a little bit of research on the Internet regarding deca shots, and its a steroid shot that you would inject and help build up the knee. I have a personal aversion to shots, and being a steroid shot, the steroid primarily gets the muscle to grow. As far as the shots to build up the muscles in your knee, if you look at an anatomy chart, there are no muscles in and around the front of the knee, so I don't know if that's really the way you would want to go in terms of being able to build up the strength in the joint itself. The only way that I have really seen that builds up the strength is to work the tendons and the ligaments in the joint specifically. So hopefully that answers your question regarding the deca shots.
It also goes on, it says, what can I do to help with the pain? The big piece as far as the pain goes is increase your water intake. Water does amazing things as far as being able to help the body flush out the acidic state that gathers in the joint, and especially when you have a knee injury that your lymphatic system, the part of your body that cleans out the garbage, kind of, tends to sit in that area, especially with a severe knee injury because of all the tension, and to get as much water as you can in your body to help flush those toxins out and help your body heal itself.
So that's what I have as far as helping with the pain. I am working on a Members Area of my website, that's the kneepainguru.com, that is going to go extensively into a rehabilitation program that you would be able to follow in the comfort of your own home, to be able to address a lot of the questions like this and what to do in different stages of issues with knee pain. o keep an eye on that website and that will be up here shortly, within the next few weeks.
So hopefully that answers your question. If you have any other questions, please feel free to send them to Bill@TheKneePainGuru.com, and I will get to them the best I can and answer them in a video format here on a weekly basis.
So thank you very much, and we will see you next week. Bye, bye.
