Hello, and welcome to your Knee Pain Question Asked, Week 9. My name is Bill Parravano. I have a question here from Ryan. Ryan is a basketball player and lately he has been having pain in his right knee. He thinks it's his patellar tendon. The patellar tendon is the tendon that holds the kneecap in place and is affecting some of his explosiveness when he jumps. Are there any exercises that can help this kind of problem? Thanks for your time.
Absolutely Ryan. There is actually -- I put together a book, specifically on exercises that can help strengthen the tendons and the ligaments in the knee itself. Generally what's going on, especially with basketball players, soccer players, football players, that do a lot of running real fast and then stopping, what happens is the bones slide in relationship to each other.
So the bone in your upper leg, the femur, slides slightly over the top of the bone in your lower leg, the tibia. When that happens it's like you are running down the field and you stop real quick. What needs to happen is you need to strengthen those tendons in the knee, and in order to do so you have to specifically fatigue the muscles in the leg, in order to get to strengthen the tendons and the ligaments.
I go in detail on that in my book, 'Stop Your Knee Pain Now'. You can check that out on my website thekneepainguru.com. I am also going to have my Members Area setup as well, that goes into even more detail as to how you can help with an entire program, a rehabilitation program that's going to be able to support your recovery from any sort of knee pain, knee injury, knee experience that you are having.
So Ryan, thank you for your question. If you would like to ask a question for yourself out there, you are welcome to send that to Bill@TheKneePainGuru.com and I will get to those questions and answer them in a video format like this once a week.
So thank you very much, and I will see you next week. Bye, bye.
