Right on time for summer in Germany and Europe, Lexus presents the open-air version of the IS. The IS 250C is out to rival cars like the BMW 3 Series Convertible.
The refined aerodynamics concept is one main aspect to set new standards in its class. The steeply raked windshield and the smooth surface body help the convertible achieve a drag coefficient of 0.29 lower than that of the Audi A5 Cabrio with the top up.
The convertible shares the engine hood, headlights, door handles and side mirrors with the sedan. The three-part folding aluminum roof opens in 20 seconds, closing in 25 but only when the car is stopped.
During the process, infrared sensors monitor the area behind the car to prevent any rear end collisions. The convertible has a new tail end construction with only little in common with the sedan.
Once you enter the car, you're surrounded by the familiar quality of a Lexus. It only takes the few minutes to get accustomed to all the features. At the press of a button, the front seat slide forward, making it easier for back seat passengers to get in. Another nice feature, when the rear seats are not occupied, the rear headrest pulled forward improving driver visibility. With the top us, the trunk holds 420 liters of cargo; with a top down, 165.
Lexus offers the convertible with the 2.5 liter V6 gasoline engine already familiar from the sedan. An engine that generates 208 horsepower, allowing this car from Japan to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 9 seconds. Max speed is 210. The 250C is already out in showrooms with the basic list price of just under 50,000 Euros.
