David: Hi, I am David Epstein and welcome to Growing Wisdom and it is the great time of the year and maybe instead of getting a cut tree you want to get alive tree. So I brought Henry Patt from Weston Nurseries and Henry what type of a tree is this and how would you care for it.
Henry: This particular one here it is a fir it is a kind of cross it is new a variety they called Intermedia and it is nice one it is a cross between a probably Fraser or Korean Fir and it is hostess needles real well they get large probably around 40 feet and 50 feet eventually. You can have it in the house more than seven to ten. I will dig a hole outside were you have the warm weather earlier in December.
And feel that hole with leaves of pine needles something to insulate the hole so it does not freeze and they saw you are digging out you want to put in pails or containers in the cellar or in garage in a place that it does not really freeze too much and that way there you are prepared for taking the tree out of the house and getting it to its home.
It is really cold outside that’s where you tree is you want to get into the garage or breeze way. So, for a day in this kind of warms up a little bit and then bring in into the house the day after. When you bring it in the end you want to have liked a large container like a half whisky barrel or a large plastic pot.
Another thing that you can do, a sheet of plastic that you can get a hardware store, roll it up halfway, tip your plant back halfway, put the rolled portion underneath, tip your plant back the other way, unroll it and tie the opposite corners so you have like a container, because you have to water this once a day with a quarter water.
David: So, laterally putting this in a bucket when you can water this about a quarter water everyday.
Henry: Right, if the weather is in climate and you got freezing weather outside ice and you can really plant it, you can put in a shade or building until the weather now works or might have keep of that about two or three months. If does being done you have to water maybe twice a month.
David: So, instead of getting a cut tree, you can get alive tree this Christmas and then plant it outside after the holidays or even next spring. Come back every week for all of our videos here at growingwisdom.com.
