Christine: It is you are wedding day, you have that special wedding cake, you have been dreaming about. Hi, I am Christine on watchmojo.com and we are going to talk some pastry makers to find out about all that work that goes into making a wedding cake.
Can you tell me what you are working on today?
Male Speaker: That is called the gum paste, the colored portion and I am sticking it on to some wires and that is the beginning of a rose. We are starting of in the center and then one-by-one, attach the petals.
Female Speaker 1: First you have to, well if you wanted a color, you have to color the gum paste, just this dough. Then you have to roll it out really thin and you use this tool to make it really thin around the edges and very delicate.
Female Speaker 2: Right now, I am just making the leaves that have a gum paste and as you see, they are pretty flat and they don't have much life, so I am taking my little ball roller. I put them in here, so that it sort of look like how Mother Nature made them. After they are well dry, I start coloring on the wings and then doing the edges and then putting a shimmer on them.
Christine: Now, what will be the next step to finish off your wedding cake?
Male Speaker 1: After I make the flowers, this is going to take about a day or two, probably give sometime to dry. I got to add on the leaves, I got to add on the color. Then we will roll out our roll fondant over cakes, then assemble them one-by-one or depending on what design you have chosen.
Christine: I see that you actually drew a design of what you want your cake to look like in the end.
Female Speaker 2: Everybody seems to always do roses and flowers on their wedding cakes. I wanted to be different. It's going to be winter fruits; pears and grapes and apples.
Christine: How long is your cake going to take to make in its entirety?
Female speaker 1: Oh, we have three days. So, eighteen hours, pretty much six hours a day and hopefully I will be done by the end.
Christine: And how would you compare the work involved in making a wedding cake, compared to another kind of cake?
Male Speaker 1: They both require thought, but this we have to anticipate the product that you are using, the temperature, the time restrains and conditions. We have to make some changes once in a while. I find this is more challenging.
