We purchased a home and during the renovation found a mezuzah. At the time, we didn't know what is was, but knew it was of Jewish orgin, and also knew that our home was built and lived in by a Jewish family from the 1930s. Superstition lead us to have the Mezuzah restored (all the layers of paint removed). Question I have is what do we do w/ it now? We're not Jewish, but feel it's a part of the home's sacredness, and feel we should put it back where we found it. What is culturally correct?

Do you kiss the fingers and touch the mezuza or touch the mezuza and then your lips? I read somewhere that it's done instead of saying the prayer that's inside the mezuza.
