Male: And today, I’ve come to the famous Mount Steven’s Club in Montreal Quebec. The Mount Steven’s Club was originally the mansion of the founder of CP Rail. Well, since then, it became a private club and like all private clubs, it went through a kind of a dead time. Well, its now experience a renaissance.
Essentially, a private group has bought it out has renovated it, restored it to its former glory and we’re going to go and take a look at what they’ve accomplished. In was wondering if you gentleman can tell me, how has the Mount Steven’s Club figured into both high society and civil society here in Montreal?
Male: Well, first of all, the first time I had been here, it was October sometime it was in the gala and I like it very, very much. We like it and we felt if we have such a beautiful club, which like a jewel and try to polish it and have it a serving to the people of Montreal and continue with the tradition for the Montreal. For the visitors and we believe this is the nicest Victorian house in North America and this one of this one is hospitality. We felt, if we take this house and prove it and make it nice for everybody if we are in Quebec and the rest of Canada.
Male: Okay, so if a member of the community, I’ll be interested in applying for membership, how does someone go about that? is there—
Male: It’s very simple. We have a board and the board, basically we look at the background because this background is very important. It’s a very prestigious home, it’s a jewel and we would love to—actually, we’d love to have the members but with those goes to the board because you know, we like to 1ask the background. And if basically, the board agrees or five board members and we basically let them in. that’ll be such a pleasure to have them here.
Male: In the past, I’ve heard that the club limited the membership to just man, is that still going to be the case?
Male: No, of course not.
Male: Welcome to the year 2000, gentleman.
Male: As a matter of fact, I would say, I wouldn’t like to say of course, women and then men I’d say both are very welcome, all of them, anyone, family, any person, any couple, very welcome to this club. There’s no limitation to anyone.
Male: It really our pleasure to have men, women. I mean it’s a club that is purchased and it’s for basically the community and it would be our pleasure to have men, women—
Male: Well, is there anything else you’d like to add about the club and how it stands and—
Male: And what I would like to add about the club that this club used to—it has a member of the royal family and member of distinguished different level of government. They have been here and also, they were here, they make few, many movies and many celebrity from Hollywood and local people, they had been here. What I would like to say now it was a joy for us to know this kind of category of people have been here, now we would like the rest of the people to feel the same way, each one of us to start here and to feel that there are all of them celebrating.
Male: Well, there you have it ladies and gentlemen, with the reopening of the Mount Steven Club. We’re not just talking about the reopening of the Mount Steven Club, we’re not just talking about the reopening of the venue and a house but a whole new era in the club and how it engaged society as a whole. Thank you very much for your time gentleman.
Male: Thank you for coming too.
