The most famous enemy of Spiderman, Venom is in fact an alien organism who requires bonding to a host to survive.
Hi welcome to watchmojo.com, I'm your host Derek Allen and today we’ll explore the history of this alien symbiote and it's most famous host, Eddie Brock.
As with all comic book characters, there are often re-imaginations and different versions to a character’s past, we have chosen to follow one story line, which infolded in the comic books. This symbiote in fact, first bonded to Spiderman and not Eddie Brock. After a battle, where Spiderman had damaged his costumer, the symbiote bonded to him offering him a new stronger suite. However, after Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four encouraged Spiderman to research his costume further. He learned that the suite was in fact a parasite attempting to bind physically and mentally to him. Spiderman goes through a clock tower, hoping the intense end of the bells would destroy the symbiote from the costume. However, it is Spiderman who should comes to the noise first. It is then discovered that in its time bonded to Spiderman, the symbiote had learned human emotions, and more importantly, how to act on them.
The symbiote sacrifices himself in order to save Spiderman and slithers away weak and drying into the church below. Here it finds a suicidal man, by the name of Eddie Brock to bond with, who had his own ties to Spiderman. Brock has been a respectable journalist living in New York, when investigating a story involving the serial killer Sin-Eater, Brock finds a man confessing to the crimes. After reporting it, it is discovered that Spiderman had in fact caught the real Sin-Eater, the man Brock had found an accused turned out to be a compulsive confessor. Humiliated and discredited by his mistakes, Brock’s wife leaves him and he is fired from his job. Blaming everything on Spiderman, Brock began a physical training regimen that out put his body in Pete form, while also helped few of his violent obsession with Spiderman.
Attracted by his great source of emption and physical form, this symbiote costume gave Brock the same ability as Spiderman and in many ways made him more powerful. After a symbiote costume divulges to Brock, all the information that it discovered about Spiderman, including his secret identity, Brock named himself Venom, claiming he’s the poison to Peter Parker and Spiderman. Paranoid that the costume would abandon him for Spiderman given the chance, Venom vows to kill Spiderman and his family.
