Welcome to Common Man Cocktails, I’m your host Derrick Schommer and today we’re going to do the Pain Killer. This is actually from this little iPod touch here and that’s how it looks like. It’s the pain killer. It’s from Pocket Cocktails. It’s an iTune App or App Store App or whatever you want to call them.
Basically, it’s a cool App that you could take on the road that has different drinks in it so, you could look up in the case of Pain Killer and you can favorite it. It has all your ingredients so we’re going to be using the ingredients from the iTune App. So that again is our Pocket Cocktails drink exactly right and there are tons of drinks on here.
You might want to check it out. It’s at 99 cents in the App store and I’ve read some of the comments of some people like, “Well, it doesn’t have the rusty nail, doesn’t have this, doesn’t have that”. Personally, this type of App is what you want to use if you’re trying to make a drink you’ve never had. If you’re looking to see that it has the App you like, like the screwdriver, why do you need an App to tell you what you already know? So for instance you can get any types of recipes from here and you kind of note that is. Look them up, you can click random, make it, enjoy it, that’s what we’re doing here. So we’re going to do the Pain Killer.
So, what we’re going to need is some dark rum. We’re going to do one and a half ounces of the dark rum and we’re going to use half ounce of the Malibu. Cooking that up a little bit, got some orange juice, pineapple juice, pretty much this is your standard fruit delicious, sweet drink. It has all the tastes of Hawaii because you could see it’s got the stuff that looks like Hawaii. There’s a palm tree, so you know you’re getting something good. Total rum based drink, nice and sweet but has good balance so let’s give it try, shall we?
Mix, we’ll do our dark rum first. So, we’re going to do one and a half ounces of the dark rum. If you guys have any suggested dark rum, send me an e-mail at dschommer@everydaydrinkers.com, really all I have been able to find is a Bacardi. I don’t look that hard but I know what’s good and what’s not or what you guys think is really good.
That’s half ounce, this drink actually calls for Malibu so you’re going to get a specific taste by using actual Malibu. If you see a recipe that calls it out, and it’s not on the manufacturer’s website, it’s probably because you’re looking for specific taste.
You could try like a Parrot Bay, coconut rum, too. It might be okay. We’re going to do two ounces of the juices, so it’s a very juicy drink. So, we’re really going to fill the glass. We’re going to use our high ball glass over here to fill it up. We could use some ice. Sticky again, alright, get to shaking.
We got a little guy over here. We’re going to garnish it with this, a little wedge of lemon, that pineapple. It’s kind of like a lemon same color. We put ice in there, ice it up.
Pre-cut the little wedge so we can stick it on there, there you go, there’s your pain killer. Looks like orange juice, smells like coconut, that’s really cool. The little amount of coconut that’s added to the rum, it’s got a very central coconut core, but it’s juicy and smooth from the juices because it has a lot of juice concentrate in here.
The little dark rum, you don’t really taste the dark rum too much so if you’re not a dark rum fan, this might be something you want to try just because it’s got a good amount of it. You might get you used to it. It’s not sour at all, pretty tasty.
So again, there are other Apps out there. This is just one of the cooler sexy ones because it has some really nice pictures to Pocket Cocktails on. It makes us want to drink it but I’d like you to try. This is your homework, go out, find a drink you’ve never had before, maybe something on here and just try it. Don’t drink your standard rusty nails or whatever it is that you think should be in these things. Try something new.
That’s the lesson for the day. Check us out on everydaydrinkers.tv as well as we can get all these episodes, links to this App and all the other stuff that we talked about on the show. I’m your host Derrick Schommer and we’re teaching you how to drink.
