New research indicates that treatments routinely used for PTSD are not effective. However, the study did show that exposure therapy, wherein a traumatic event is relived again and again, was effective at causing the events to lose their potency.
From New York - the pharma giant Pfizer is pulling its inhaled insulin product Exubera from the market. The product was initially believed to be a potential blockbuster, given the rising prevalence of diabetes and the fact that it can be used instead of injections. The drug is being pulled for business decisions as opposed to safety ones, as it never achieved significant market penetration.
From Virginia - Following the death of a high school student from methicillin-resistant staph aureus, other cases are being diagnosed across the country. MRSA is now causing more deaths in the US than HIV/AIDS. Health authorities are recommending the high school students wash their hands frequently, cover cuts and boils and avoid sharing personal items like towels, razors and tweezers.
