Hi, I am Joe Bennett, welcome to the Rookie Cook. Do you love shredded cabbage mixed with some shredded carrots and usually it served as a side item with barbecue and fish and you mix some seminis and other ingredients? Well, you will like it today, because we are making coleslaw.
Now fixing coleslaw is something simple and easy, anyone can do it, even the Rookie Cook. Now, some people might say that that's not exactly true, because you've got to take the time to shred the cabbage, you've got to take the time to shred the carrots, it's going to be a lot of work. I like to call those people suckers. Because why do all that work, when you can just go buy a ready-mix package of coleslaw at your grocery store.
Once you do that, you're ready to make it. You're going to take the bag, you're going to open it, you're going to pour the contents in, just like this, here we go. And now, you're going to add the ingredients. So what we're going to do, is we're going to take some sugar, about six-and-half-tablespoons of sugar, pour that into the mix, and now we're going to take some onion powder, again this is going to be much easier, because why cut up onions, when you can just cut onion powder, and about a tablespoon of that, it will do.
Once you've added those things in, you're going to mix the contents together, round like this, make sure you get underneath, underneath, and get all that mixed in together. Once that is properly mixed, we're going to take our vinegar, and about a one-fourth cup of vinegar will do, pour that in there. And now, you're going to want to remix. And you know what, since it's the remix, you can dance if you like, I am not going to be mad at you. We're going to mix that in, again making sure to get all that mixed in together. Once that's done, you are going to want to let that set for about 15 minutes, so all the ingredients can, you know, kind of get to know each other a bit, before you add the final stuff. So we're going to let that set for 15 minutes, let the time go.
Now most American versions of coleslaw have some form of mayonnaise, and so we want to add that. So we're going to take about a three-fourth cup of mayonnaise and add that in. And make sure you get all of that out. And now you're going to want to add a tablespoon of salt, mix that altogether, make sure you get to the bottom. And once that's mixed together, you're going to take that, put it in the fridge and let that chill. And then you're going to have some good coleslaw.
I am Joe Bennett, thanks for watching the Rookie Cook. If you have any rookie cook questions that you would like us to see, make an episode out of, then go to the comment section, write it down, let us know, because we want to do that for you. And also, you see that subscribe button, once you hit that, that's it. Now we want to take this, put it in the fridge, and let it chill for however long it takes to chill something.
