Dave Epstein: Hi! I am Dave Epstein and welcome to a cup of tea and some Growing Wisdom here and. We are talking today mosquitoes with Kristin Anderson and you are the Product Manager of the Mosquito Vacuum.
Kristin Anderson: That is right.
Dave Epstein: And what is interesting about that is that the product was developed right here in Massachusetts where we are based.
Kristin Anderson: That is right. I work for a company that is in Massachusetts and the product is made in the United States. We wanted to make sure it -- launching something new that we control quality and we can check how it is made and makes sure that it is working well.
Dave Epstein: People spend so much time building their yards, their outdoor space, they are not taking vacations all over the world. They want their yards to be their piece of paradise.
Kristin Anderson: Yes. Those are the trends that we are seeing. We are seeing that people look through their backyard as additional space, living space and I think the problem is that -- the mosquitoes are here and they are here to stay and it is a growing problem as weather patterns change, and there are more migratory birds, there are more different mosquitoes, mosquitoes carrying diseases. That at the end of the day people want to go out and enjoy their yard.
Dave Epstein: Tell me about the product and sort of how it works and --
Kristin Anderson: Think of it as an appliance for your yard that is working all the time. It is going to run continuously and as it does so it is catching mosquitoes and for every one mosquito, female mosquito it catches it is going to interrupt the breeding cycles of so many more down the road.
Dave Epstein: To me it is also a safety issue because there are a lot of diseases that are out there now so I guess this would help to mitigate that as well.
Kristin Anderson: I have two young children and I do not want to cover them in pesticidal products every time they go outside.
Dave Epstein: The thing I like about the product, (a) I do not have to worry about it. So it is sort of once I set it up, obviously I have got to change the propane and I have got to empty the basket but it kind of a little self sufficient little mosquito robot over there, kind of doing its thing. Unlike sprays, which basically repel the mosquitoes but they are still out there, this is beginning to address the problem itself.
Kristin Anderson: Yes. That is right, I mean, we are not promising that this trap will eradicate every single mosquito in your yard. But it is going to do a good job of continually attracting mosquitoes and reducing the populations over time.
Dave Epstein: It is terrific, it is a great product and where do I get it .
Kristin Anderson: You can find it at your local Home Center Stores and online we have a website, FarewellMosquitoes.com which give you more information about the trap and help you find it in your house.
Dave Epstein: Is there any other information about mosquitoes that is out there.
Kristin Anderson: The American Mosquito controls association place as one great place. And also the CDC, they have dedicated websites about mosquito information.
Dave Epstein: Kristin, great. This has been very helpful, I appreciate your time and we hope you come back every week for all of our tips, hints and helps at GrowingWisdom.com
